“Shenzhen University - Bad!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2014

SZU is expensive and you don't get what you pay for! We sit in horrible class with fixed chairs so u cant move further from the desk which is the problem for students with non-chinese average hight. The chair is fixed to the desk behind U and distance between row is extremely small and the seats its self are not comfortable at all. Also in few classrooms is leaking roof , include our one. The walls are dirty some windows are hard to open ore close so overall estate of classroom is just poor!
Last semester we were 30 people in class. The book you get are mostly badly copied issues. Black and white copy paper and they charge u full price. Some teachers are nice and very good in what they do, but some of them still have that chinese method of teaching.....We have to finish the book till end of semester no matter what, so we just reading it through without chance to absorb new words.
On SZU website u can read that payment can be done by visa or mastercard in local bank....Not true! What it is , is actually that u have to go to some local bank ATM , withdraw the cash and then can put it on their account. Max withdraw is 3000rmb, so u have to do it 3x and pay fee 3x.
They have wi-fi in school, which is not expensive, but work on certain locations. But not in Foreign dormitory study room. Speak about that study room - thats story it self. You sit on wooden bench , very narrow one. Study libraries for Chinese students are equipped with comfortable chairs. You can go there as well and if u r lucky can find a seat, coz its usually booked by students who just throw their bag to make it occupied and then go somewhere for few hours. Or the best one is , they also sleep there.
If you want to do some sport activity, its also the problem, but thats not SZU fault , its because in China are many people, so its busy at all the time.
To book tennis courts you have to go to sport centre 8am same day you want to play ( cant book it in advance..which I dont really understand why??? its paid upfront so I dont see any problem ) and wait in Q of 20-30 people already in front of U. Swimming pool is open only from 4pm??? Why? I dont know. Water probably needs to sleep till then.
Anyway, I believe at the moment school has approx 400 international students. x 1000euro per semester, makes around 1,000 000 $ per year. They dont spend a penny towards to those paying foreign students.
Canteens is what it is. U get what u pay, there are more options outside campus. Dormitory rooms for foreigners are very expensive , Its something around 2000y per. months. Not incl, the bills.
In overall I must say I was very disappointed with school.

“lovely campus”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

I stayed here at the international dorms for about 2 weeks. People were very welcoming and the campus is beautiful. They have really nice walkways and 2 lakes. The mall is also not too far away from the mall. The food in the cafeteria was ok, but they have little bakeries and a campus restaurant where the food is pretty good. Overall, it was a fun experience.

I went January 2011.

“Nice campus”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2013

It is a very nice campus for people who study there. It is big, with a lot of green areas, 2 lakes, stadium and so on. But there is not much to see there. It will be a decent visit, but if you are not around the University, you should try to visit other places in Shenzhen instead of this one.

“awesome”

I went to this university to see a friend that tutors there and I must say I was impressed. Well set out, easy to get around and find particular buildings. Oh and the students were very friendly to me

“Not a whole lot to see here”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2013

I rode through campus on a bike and I thought I'd write a review. Its a decent sized campus, lots of green space here. A lot of older buildings and dorms, along with some newer and more modern recreational buildings. The rec centers aren't open to the public as far as I know, but there are some outdoor basketball courts. There is some food but nothing exceptional. I found this place to be a bit on the boring side. Not a whole lot to see here.
