We stayed 2 nights in Shenzhen at the shangrila after a stint in Macau.
After average service in Macau it was a great feeling to step out of our taxi and be greeted with such friendly staff. We frequently travel and have experienced many different types of hotels
This Shangri La felt far more homey than the others we stayed at.The staff all seemed very happy and genuinely warm people.
We spent time in the horizon lounge with exceptional service given by Cherry and her staff.
Nothing was to much trouble
Our room was standard Shangri La style very comfortable as we had a suite due to having 2 children with us
Finally thank you to William and Jason for helping accompany me to the local hospital with my son who had been unwell prior to arriving in China
Jason was an absolute gentleman
Great staff and great hotel
No need to venture elsewhere
He was amazing and helped translate all sorts of areas in the hospital

We went for a shopping holiday in Shenzhen. We had a pleasant stay at Shangrila. The service was okay, lacking personal touch maybe it's a chain hotel. But the rooms are of decent size and clean. The highlight is the location, within easy walking to the big Luohu Center.

Quick summary: the room was decent enough but cramped. Not as nice as the other Shangri-La's I've stayed in, but okay. Across the street from the train station. Harassing people(recruiting for shopping; hookers) right outside the hotel -- I didn't feel good about exploring the nearby shopping malls that looked rather nice because of having to run this ganlet.

Room 821 is a standard room, has 2 comfortable beds, overlooks the back of another hotel, and was a disappointment compared to other hotels in the Shangri-La chain. The housekeeping was as a good as ever, but the room felt a little small, the towels were thin and cheap, and the bathtub (with a shower) was as shallow as I've ever seen in a hotel that aspires to be upmarket in Asia. However, there were all the usual business class amenities: robes, nice toiletries, small safe (not big enough for a laptop, and perhaps not a netbook,) coffee/tea maker, iron/board, decent TV.

I'm sure that the club-level Horizon Club would deliver a nicer experience, but the hotel was booked by our hosts.

The breakfast buffet, included in my room rate, was quite good with much that would please both Western and Asian taste preferences. Many hot and cold items, fruits, juices, pastries and cereals, etc. Made-to-order omlettes were good.

The lobby had the usual acres of marble and stone, and really beautiful floral arrangements. Unfortunately, the lobby had an overpowering fragrance (excuse me-- aroma therapy or ambiance) that was eye-watering. I love perfumes, but it was really offensive A colleague reported a more foul odor in the back near the restrooms, so it is possible that it is temporary, and was meant to mask something unfortunate in the back.

There is a pool and gym, but Idid not have time to check them out.

The one night we had free for dinner, we were tired and didn't want to go far. The hotel has a high-end, expensive restaurant on the top floor that looked pretty good, but some in your group weren't up for it. There is also a bar up there with a nice view, and I'm sure the light show of the nearby buildingsis fun to see.

By this time in China, we were in the mood for Western food, and ended up in the hotel's Champs sports bar. The burgers, pizzas, taco salad, etc. were pretty good, and drinks reasonably priced. There is also a pool table.

We might have liked to have gone for a little walk to try a place in the neighborhood for dinner, but we were discouraged by the gantlet of men right outside the hotel that we'd have to walk through. Depending on gender, they would harass you by asking if you were interested in shopping or hookers. After a long day, we just were not in the mood to deal with it, so the sports bar it was.

The railway station is right across the street. There are also some nice malls nearby, but again, you'd have to deal with the guys out front if you went in the evening.

Summary: while the room was okay, it was not as impressive as other Shangri-La's I've stayed in. The breakfast was very good. The harassment right outside your hotel was annoying. I'd check out other places, but would still be okay with this place if the room rate was favorable.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel has a better view. I'm sure the Horizon Club club-level rooms are nicer...

Can not fault the staff for helpfulness and service at this oasis of calm in busy, busy Shenzhen. They are attentive and go the extra mile to help and to make your stay comfortable. If you can stay on the club floor.

Room Tip: Ask for one with view of Lo Wu and the river

This is a great hotel for people who want to spend a couple of days in Shenzhen. Close to the railway station, shops and a good starting point for persons wanting to explore Shenzhen.

OK - the first thing to accept is that it is up there in pricing. Suck it up because you get what you pay for in China. I have stayed in other hotels in Shenzhen and this is the best. It is only a couple of nights so splurge and relax. Great outdoor pool to relax in if you have a spare second.

Room Tip: Spend that little bit extra and head for the Executive level

I always enjoy returning to this Shangri La, it has a good club lounge where the staff remember your name and drink. The spa is nice , not expensive , suitable when you just want a massage without any fancy extras. The location is excellent as I catch trains and buses to visit different areas, on my last trip I checked out but my bus was delayed 2 hours and they welcomed me back in the lounge straight away to wait they are the things that make me return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Stay on the club floor if the budget allows.
