Okay, I don't like Shenzhen - there, I've said it. It's not one of my favorite cities. It seems to be the product more of some 60's era city planner rather than the result of natural growth. It is crowded, noisy and lacking the charm of most cities in China. So I'm biased.
But the Lushan Hotel, despite its location right in the middle of everything in LouHu does help mitigate my dislike of Shenzhen. It is within a few blocks of the Guo Mao subway stop. The lobby is grand and even has a no smoking section!! The staff has pretty good English skills and tries to be very helpful. The rooms are rather large and well appointed, although much of the furniture is so old school as to be comical. Like many places in tropical China, the smell of mold is present, but less so here. The window glazing keeps out the noise of the busy intersection and makes for a comfortable and quiet room. There is free wired Internet in the rooms - so iPad owners must head to the lobby for Wifi. Breakfast at Lushan is pretty good. The location of the breakfast room overlooks the lobby on one side and the city of the other. The breakfast was quite good with congee, rice, noodles and steamed buns and fruit, but westerners might not find their usual breakfast food. When I was there a couple of elevators were out making for long waits.
Lushan is a good value, but one wishes it were cleaner, brighter, and more up to date.
