“Like a brilliant pearl embedded in Zhuhai”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

The New Yuanming Palace is a first grade scenic spot in Southern China. Built in the scale of 1:1 according to some typical scenic spots of the Yuanming Palace, which was destroyed by fire. The New Yuanming Palace is the only imperial garden in South China. Located at the foot of Mt. Dashilin it boast splendid sceneries around a large lake. Wonderful stage performances and and lots to see and do. A must for any tourist in Zhuhai.

“Interesting place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2011

This place is interesting since it is pretty much like the olden dynasty. There are different areas where you can view the palaces and read more about the emperor and his concubines. And there are performances at different parts of the park, which I think is like the main highlight since walking around the park isn't that interesting - all you do is to take pictures.

However, it is pretty much of a touristy place with misleading information. We saw this "service" where the guy will use your name to create poem at 5RMB. Thinking it was pretty good deal, we decided to try it out. After he wrote your name & the poem on the paper, he will ask which kind of scroll you would like him to write on (calligraphy). He will try his best to introduce you on the silk one, which of course is more pricey. At the end of the day, we paid 125RMB for it. We asked about the silk one and it cost 400RMB+! And all these prices were not disclosed beforehand!

Also, at one of the "palace", you get to go up to visit the gallery. From there, you will pass by this temple alike place (where the emperors used to go). Then here comes the "priests" who will ask you to offer incense "FOC". Right after that, they asked for donations. Thinking it was pretty normal to make donations (at a normal temple), we did. After which, they pull my bf & i aside (separated) and started telling us "fortunes" and of course, asked for more donations. He started asking me to make donations from 99RMB onwards... which I did not comply to and he told me 10RMB will do. However, my bf at the other end, paid 120RMB for it. Was really uncomfortable of course to keep on hearing these "sales talk"

Apart from the whooha, everything else was alright. the park is still worth a visit if you are into palaces etc

“A place to visit if you are in Zhuhai”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2011

The New Yuan Ming Yuan is one of the attractions that you can consider if you have a day or 2 in Zhuhai or have extra time for free & easy. This place is actually a mock-replica of the Old Summer Palace in Beijing. Touring this place would need atleast 2-3 hours, that is if you do not stop to watch its shows.

Probably one of the main attractions of this place is the qing dynasty buildings and exhibition of some of the antiques that were in the Old Summer palace.

If you appreciate the palace customs and cultures, you can consider watching its shows, however, these shows are in Mandarin and there is no english translation.

Apart from that, there are some shops selling souvenirs in this place.
