“A good choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2010

We stayed for 3 nights in a deluxe mountain view room. The balcony is big and the room is clean and bright with sufficient lighting. Big flat TV with many channels to choose from. Bathroom is spacious with both shower and bath tub.

The swimming pool is average but the beach is gorgeous. We tried some of the activities (yoga and spa training) organized by the hotel. It's amazing to practise yoga on the green with the sea wave as background music and the wonderful sea/sky/trees as backdrop.

We had a delicious and money for value seafood dinner at the famous food stall "Chun Yuen" (literal meaning "Spring Garden") in the city centre. It would be nice if the hotel can offer paid (I think free ride may not be feasible as it takes 30 mins by taxi and costs RMB60 one way) shuttle bus to the city centre.

Free internet service is also highly recommended for a 5-star hotel like Marriott.

The hotel homepage said the taxi fee to the airport is RMB150 which is acutally RMB120(arranged by the hotel) or even lower if you call the taxi on your own.

We found the staff to be completely incompetent. At arrival, they couldn't find our reservation, on top of that, because we had 2 separate reservations, it was even more difficult for them to over come the issue. They finally found our reservation upon our check out, after I had to raise my voice to get the manager on the issue.

When we checked-in, there was a long line of complaining customers that rooms were not ready, etc. The staff were very friendly and continuously apologized for this and that but still, no amount of apologies compensated for their lack of experience or initiative.

The food was awful. They had western "looking" foods but none tasted like they should. Additionally, the staff just didn't have the know-how on western food to cater to western clients. It is true that most clients were chinese so I'm sure they were fine with the staff. But for a foreigner who requests honey or parmesan cheese, or that hot and sour soup doesn't really go with a ham and cheese sandwich, they were at a complete loss.

The property is lovely and the beach was nice but don't have high expectations at this hotel on food and service. We often went to the Ritz (just next door) for meals.

Great place, great location, great service. I won’t say it was exceptional but overall experience was very good. Extremely great to place to bring kids along. With their club house for kids, you can easily leave your kids & enjoy the beauty of Sanya in relaxation :)) We were there for 3 days & never felt the urge to leave the resort. All their restaurants also serve mouthwatering gastronomical delights at ok prices, which is rare. Water sports at the beach were over priced but again that was expected. Rooms were a bit dated too & need some uplift. Even with its very few shortcomings, I would definitely would like to stay there again.

Nice hotel with beautifully manicured grounds. The pool is really nice and had several large floating toys for the kids to play on. Pool menu limited but nice. They have a large buffet breakfast with western and asian style food that is included in your room charge. The spa has a nice selection of services and offer discounts during the day during their non peak hours. There is a kids club that has some free activities as well as a kiddie pool and small playground. Everyday they have some free activities for kids and adults to participate in hosted by the hotel. Japanese restaurant is good. There is a small "supermarket" just next to the hotel entrance to stock up on drinks and snacks for less cost than the hotel cost. We have been here several times and find this to be a comfortable place to stay.

Unlike many resorts in Asia that have no beach or a small and inadequate beach, the Marriott Sanya is right on one of the best beaches in Asia. The sand is clean and very good for digging, and the water is clear. As well as the beach, the Marriott has a wonderful garden complete with a number of strategically located hammocks for you to relax in. The two level pool is great for both adults and children and there is also a lap pool at the clubhouse to the front of the hotel. The selection of food on the breakfast buffet was amazing. There is no issue with attitudes - everybody is polite, friendly and willing to help - but we had a few minor issues with service, mainly because we were there at Easter when the hotel was absolutely full, and because many of the staff are young and inexperienced (this is a general Sanya issue, not particular to Marriott). However, the management team was marvelous. Not only do they listen to their guests' concerns, they act on them and fix things immediately. Karl Hudson, the GM and Yang Yang, F&B Manager were particularly helpful to us.

If you are staying for a while and don't want to eat in the Marriott's three restaurants everyday there are some really nice restaurants and cafes in La Floret shopping village 2 minutes ($1.50) down the road by taxi, including Thai, Brazilian barbeque, Chinese seafood, noodles and dumplings.

This is one hotel I really did not want to leave..........

We stayed at the Marriott with our baby for 3 nights and were 80% satisfied. The hotel is top-notch, swimming pools catering for adults as well as the young ones. Direct access to beach, an excellent restaurant serving great buffett breakfast.

Staff are not up to the intl level one would expect from a 5 star hotel. We had a few misunderstandings right from checkin. They refused to warm up my baby's food saying it can't be done for safety reasons. Waiting staff were very slow with taking order or delivering the food. We once had to call room service to get a bandaid and they never came.

Apart from that, everything else was 1st class and we would go back.
