My husband and I went for 6 days with our two year old and four year old. We had a 4 night deal which was 1600 CY including two breakfasts, we paid 480 CY per night for the two extra nights. Our two year old had free breakfast and we paid 150 CY for the 6 days for our four year old to have breakfast. We were told it was Western Style breakfast but there was toast, boiled eggs, occassionly bacon and then a lot of chinese food. My husband went for fried egg on toast every morning, I settled for fried egg and rice with veg and bacon if they had it. The kids had yogurt, toast and boiled eggs and cake if they were good. Coffee was ok but not great. We had a nice room with one large bed which slept my husband and i and our two year old, as the free baby bed was too small. we had an extra bed for our four year old which cost 100 CY per night. The view from our room was nice, we overlooked the large pool and had a view of the sea and mountains.
The pool had quite a large childs pool area with large steps going into the pool which our two year old loved as he could roll around and play with his toys in the water without going in too deep. Our four year old loved it too as at the deepest part it only came to her chest so she loved splashing around and ducking under the water. The larger area of the pool was much deeper but again with large steps leading down to the deep end. There was a basket ball net if you wanted to take a small ball and play. There were also two hot spring plunge pools which were lovely and one extra pool for the kissing fish, it said that the fish are only found in Hainan and Egypt, I don't know how true that is but with the four night deal we got an half an hour with the fish for free. It was great, it looks like they are kissing you but it tickles like hell for the first five minutes, it doesn't hurt at all and all we could think was that they ate the dead skin cells. It was great fun anyway and we paid an extra 10 CY each for the kids to join us and they loved it one minute then when there wanted to get out they just sat on the side until we had finished.
The staff were really helpful and did speak enough english to be able to help. My husband and I know a little mandarin to get by so I think that helped too. The taxi from the hotel to Sanya city took about ten minutes and the price varied depending if you got a nice driver or not, some charged on the clock and was about 25 CY others would do it off the clock and charge you 40 CY. Make sure you don't pay any more than 40 as it would be a total rip off. I felt at times that we were taken advantage off being westerners. We did see other westerners there but mainly Russian. There were a dutch family but we didn't feel out of place with all the chinese there. Watch out for the seafood restaurants that all the locals recommend on the beach front, the food is nice but very expensive and make sure you know how much everything is before you order.
There were two singers on most nights a man and woman, I think they stay at the hotel as we saw them at breakfast most mornings too. The singers are good but not excellent but very friendly and great with the kids, our four year old made friends with a five year old who was staying at the hotel with her family and they were up singing with the female singer and dancing along to the music.
The evening BBQ was nice, well cooked but a little expensive. The meals off the menu were nice and average prices from the UK between 30 CY for french fries and 50 CY for a plated meal, we had rice and chicken and it was very nice. The drinks however are much more expensive 32 CY for one bottle of SOL and 10 CY for one small bottle of water. The second day we made a trip to the supermarket in Sanya city and bought a crate of Anchor beer and two crates of water for 25 CY so well worth the trip.
The grounds are very nice and well kept and there are plenty of opportunites for photos. The beach was nice and private, we didn't drink at the beach bar but it was always open from early morning to late evening. The beach was nice, smooth with a few shells, look out for the small crabs that scurry along the sand as you walk along, our kids loved looking for them and trying to catch one, they never did though, they are just too fast. The sea was great no jelly fish, quite choppy but then we only had a paddle with the kids so only up to knee high. The kids loved it and you have free sun loungers with umbrella.
The maid made up our room every day even if we didn't put the sign out asking them to. Plenty of clean towels, beach towels and dressing gowns too, all changed every day, obviously if used. We had a small fridge in our room along with a kettle and cups. Although the electricity was turned off when you took your key card out so leaving anything in the fridge for a long period was a bit of a waste of time. It is ok for water and beer though and we had juice and snacks in there for the kids which kept ok.
All in all it was a lovely place and we all enjoyed our time there. We had two days of rain but it was still quite hot which meant we just stayed in the pool but the rest of the time it was lovely sunshine and even with a cloudy day we still got slightly burnt so do take extra care.
Take a look at some of the pics hope you like them.
