Shanghua Boutique Hotel
Ranked #197 of 461 Hotels in Hohhot
Reviewed 25 August 2012

Hello Everyone,

This is a 3 star hotel.

I'll get straight to the point. This hotel was terrible! I had pre-booked this hotel for 5 days and when arriving at the front desk they had no record of my booking. After 10 minutes we finally figured everything out and I decided to pay in full. When getting to my room the floors were not very clean (had hair etc.) and near the bathroom the floor was wet. I later realized that in the bathroom the floor was peeling up and off from around the drain and the water was seeping under the floor and into the carpet. The room had a musty smell for my entire stay.

On the second day, I went to open my hotel room and the card was deactivated. I had to go to the desk to sort it out. I figured no problem these things just happen but it happened again on the fourth night and they refused to re-activate it unless I pay an additional 208RMB. Again needing to argue with them and refuse to pay more, they gave up. They reactivated my card and I went to my room to get my receipt to prove it was paid in full. When showing the front desk the receipt (I was holding it up for them to see but not take), they tried to take my copy from my hand.

In sum, the hotel was bad, poor customer service and I didn't appreciate someone trying to cheat me. This hotel is only 28RMB from the airport and the taxi driver probably will try to charge you 100RMB. Refuse any deals and point to the meter. Hohhot on the other hand, is a really interesting city. There are many things to do if you look in the right places. I would recommend visiting Hohhot.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

P.s. I have been working in China for more than 1 year and have adapted to the differences in cultures quite well. I can speak enough chinese to understand and explain what I want so there was no language barrier during my vacation in Hohhot.

Room Tip: This is what I have since learned and can understand why. Many hotels in Hohhot will not accept fore...

For the price I paid, I did not expect anything much. But when I arrive, I was told I can only stay for 2 nights, instead of the 3 nights I booked.

When I asked why, they told me they have a group booking on the 3rd night and they don't have enough rooms. As I booked through Ctrip, I asked them how come I was not informed. They said my booking was made very much earlier and they got the group booking after I made my booking. Well, I persisted, and my 3rd night magically appeared.

The moment I stepped into the room, I felt it looked sleazy. The room and bathroom itself was not small compared to the hotel I stayed in Shanghai. However, the light was very dim and the carpet was 'sticky'. The bathroom was full of scum and the water does not flow fast enough to the water-trap. As such, the bathroom floor was perpetually wet. Adding to that, the carpet area outside the bathroom was also wet. I'm not too sure why.

We managed to book days tours with a hostel and decided to move there instead after staying 2 nights at this hotel.

Also, my credit card did not work with this hotel. I had to find cash to pay for the deposit :(

The only good thing about this hotel is its' location. Just across the road from the airport shuttle stop.

The location and price is truely unbeatable. It is only about 100 yards from Shangri-la, an international five stars hotel. Located just right opposite to airport shuttle and price is incomparable to what you can find in Europe and other western countries.

Rooms have reasonable size, not obviously dirty except the bathroom. Shower is immobile, when you shower you easily get everything else wet. No bath suite so you are showering on the bathroom floor. The room smells smokey and furniture looks over 30 years old.

However one has to remember you get what you paid for, so for this price I would still suggest people to stay. The room is enough for a couple plus one child.

Room Tip: All rooms are really identical in my view
