“Beautiful lake reminiscent of Lake Geneva”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

This lake town is really pretty with a China flair. I really enjoyed the "european" feel of this Chinese city. The people were friendly and the food was great.

“Jinji”

An excellent place to visit.
The water and light show is a marvelous free event on most weekends.
Lots of places to eat and drink as you stroll around the lake.

“Picturesque and serene”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

love the view, serenity and the ambience...totally what we need on a holiday, and with plenty of fresh air too. Wasn't too keen on one of the mini shops that had captured a turtle and kept it in a cage that hardly had enuf space for it to move. This was the only sour memory I have of this place.

“Forgettable”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Because of all the rave reviews, my partner and I decided to head over to Jinji Lake one night during our trip to Suzhou. I read on numerous websites that the Jinji Lake water show and fireworks were both at 8pm every Friday and Saturday night, as well as on holidays.

We arrived at the Dongfangzhimen Metro station at about 7:15 this past Friday night and decided to go get a drink at Zapata's, right next to the water, while we waited for the show to start. At 7:40, just when our drinks finally arrived, we suddenly heard the water show beginning. We tried to drink quickly but by the time we got outside the water show had just ended (about 10 minutes for the show). Thinking we missed the whole show, we decided a walk by the lake would at least be nice, but at about 8:20 the fireworks show suddenly started on the opposite side of the lake. Maybe the show varies in quality but this time it was pretty pitiful, just very basic fireworks and only one at a time. The fireworks show only lasted a few minutes.

The lake itself is nice for an artificial lake, although in my opinion there are much better things to see and do in Suzhou. I would really only recommend going if you have a lot of time in Suzhou or maybe if you have kids and want to take them to the water show, just be sure to show up early!
