“Pan Pacific Hotel and resort”

On our fifth trip to China in Nov. 2011, we went to another part that we had not seen. This being one of the easiest and shortest distances of all. We went to Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Tongi to name a veiw cities. I Transportation was great and easy. We were able to use the fast train which was a neat experience as well as rickshaws, buses, taxis. We have never stayed in a bad hotel in all our trips, so our expectations are always good. This time we had the pleasure to stay in the Pan Pacific Hotel and Resort in Suzhou. The rooms, amenities, service were wonderful. Every window you look out has a beautiful view. The location was great so we did a lot of walking. We were given a tour of the hotel by the restuarant manager, Mr. Paul, which proved to be very interesting and informative. The concierge was extremely helpful in helping us in many ways. Connected to the hotel grounds is a very large, beautiful park/gardens which as a hotel guest you can enter from the hotel and it's free. Suzhou is a very interesting city with lots to do and see. Lots of history and beautiful gardens and waterways where you can take boat rides, etc. Staying in this hotel is a real treat.

Room Tip: We stayed there in the beginning and end of our trip. Both rooms were pretty much the same with gre...

Stayed here on business last October. Given we were a group, check in was a bit lengthy (and i was jet lagged). The room appeared to be OK, with nice Chinese decorations. But upon further investigation, the carpet was dirty, the bathroom barely cleaned, and the bed....it was rock hard, with overstuffed pillow...unsleepable. The restaurant served us some fair to rather bizarre food (BBQ aigrette, anyone). No gym. The surroundings were nice (apart from the view from the room), walking distance from main drag with lots of bars for "lonely travellers". Free Wi-fi included, but lots of censored sites!

....but that's about all I can find good to say. The bellman watched from the door while we wrestled our suitcases off the bus and into the lobby. The place was lackluster at best - cavernous lobby that smelt of cigarette smoke, empty brochure racks and a LONG walk to the elevator. The room we had was pretty darn small - and wall-to-wall bed with the rollaway for our youngest son. (The older boy, who is 14, is too tall to have slept on it.) I've seen bigger bathrooms on airplanes and the tub never did drain completely. Don't be lured in by the location . Cabs are cheap in China but a good night's sleep is priceless - and you aren't all that likely to get one here.

Chose this hotel as it was recommended in the guide book. This hotel was rather dissappointing, considering that it was rated 4 stars. Perhaps correct to China's hotel ratings. Rooms were clean however furnitures were old, my room sofa had ciggarete burnt marks on them. Don't expect much from the breakfast buffet.
Reception were helpful and even helped booked my train tickets back to Shanghai with a small additional fee. They spoke fairly good English.
Location was good with retaurants and bars along the streets and my room had a nice view of a garden and pond. We could hear toads croaking at night.

Hotel was part of the Travelsphere Discover China Tour.
Obviously picked by Travelsphere for its location as it was next to streets lined with shops and bars. It was also just 10 mins walk away from the Night Garden. Hotel set in large grounds. Bar areas very smoky but we stayed on a non-smoking floor and it wasn't too bad.
Room was a little run down but OK, plenty of facilities and free water and kettle but dribbly shower.
Food Ok and had room service one day and that was Ok.
A satisfactory stay

A very disappointing hotel.Everything looked ok from the outside but inside the hotel was dull and run down and the staff looked about the same! The rooms badly needed refurbishment and the carpets were a disgrace. The view from our room was awful looking over a rusty airconditioner and half wrecked buildings.
The garden could have been a nice place to sit and relax but was neglected and sad.
Fortunately the breakfasts were good!
The hotel is in a great location on Shiquan St so near all the restaurants and tourist area and near all the canals.
Choose a better hotel but inside the city proper where the action is.

Stay at the Suzhou as part of a Travelsphere tour. As a hotel is a fairly basic 3 star hotel and the breakfasts were a nightmare, a bit like a very busy motorway service station with tea, coffee etc being split on the table cloths and new occupents taking the seats without the table cloths being changed. The worst hotel on the tour. On the plus side it is in the middle of a shopping area with lots of bars
