We hadn't expected too much from this hotel so we were agreeably surprised. Our room was well equipped and spacious and well maintained with a fruit bowl replenished daily and even a little pot of sweets. The accommodation is in small blocks and ours had a receptionist/concierge in the lobby as you entered. It was a little walk from the main lobby and breakfast room but the grounds are very nice and porters with a little golf cart organise your luggage. At breakfast there was quite a lot of variety of both eastern and western foods. The location is good - just opposite the Master of Nets garden so we recommend going to the performance there one evening. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but if you are yearning for a western meal there's an excellent restaurant just round the corner - Bistronomy - but be sure to make a reservation as it's quite small.

This was one of the most comforting hotels I have stayed in in China. The rooms are desgined with comforting earthy brown and green colors, the lighting is just right, there were many chinese literature and poetry books in the room written in Chinese and English. I just felt really at home during my stay, it was calming and relaxing and I had a great night sleep. In the morning I awoke to the sound of birds chirpping outside my window and view of the unique gardens and stone structures. The breakfast buffet was extensive and can offer somthing to fit the Asian, Eurpopean and American taste. If in Suzhou I highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Get up early and take a walk aroundthe gardens.

We stayed in the deluxe room. It is very big and quiet. The beds are spacious and the water is hot. We enjoyed our stay here.

We enjoyed walking out, took buses (need to know mandarin) or taxis to local attraction and eateries.

Highly recommend this hotel.

I was there in July for the APCV conference which was on site. Nice conference facilities, beautiful room, and nice grounds. The buffet breakfast was really excellent. The only disappointment (especially for by 14 year old son) was the pool, which was indoors, full of little kids, and they required a swim cap (just try to get a teenage kid to wear one, I dare you!) Nice neighboorhood as well with good nearby restaurants.

Six family members (East and West coast Americans and 3 Brits) stayed in 2 rooms for different times up to 3 weeks, and we all loved it. Staff was unfailingly kind and helpful, the rooms were clean and elegant, the gardens are stunning, and the location is perfect. We walked or took the local bus (2 yuan) or reasonable taxis all over old town, and never ran out of things to do, see and eat. Special mention here of the great vegetarian restaurant across the market street from the hotel, even the carnivores in the group loved it. The business office upstairs helped with our travel arrangements, including tickets the day before for several trips via the marvellous bullet train into Shanghai. (I should mention here that none of speaks more than a tiny bit of Mandarin but we managed.) The hotel's decorations for Christmas and New Year were stunning, including huge gingerbread houses and a working carousel. The serene lobby is home to happy koi, and it smells good. I hope to come back to this hotel some day soon, it's probably my favorite.
