If you need to be in the SIP, this is a good bet. It is close to the Shanghai-Nanjing highway, less than an hour to Sshanghai Hongqiao airport. There is a nice eco-part just across the road where you can walk for an hour or two, though it is a little too 'organised' for my taste. At weekends, it will be thronged with locals.

The hotel is still in generally good condition and rooms are reasonably priced. There is not so much to do on site - and downtown is a 15-20 minute drive. There is a free shuttle bus in the evenings to the SIP downtown area.

If they provided bicycles for hire, that would be nice - since there are lots of cycle tracks - but they don't alas. I've suggested that to the hotel on several occasions, but never got an answer.

There is an executive floor and lounge, but the lounge is never open. Perhaps not enough guests to make it worth opening.

The Chinese restaurant is good. The Western (Globe Cafe) is OK, but the menu is a bit limited. Breakfast foods are rather over boiled (veg) or hard/stale (breads) - due to being left out for too long. May be fresher earlier. Globe Cafe staff are extremely friendly and helpful - Sue Zhu manages her team well.

Room Tip: Book early at www.accor.com and there are steep discounts.

This is one of my favourite hotels in China - and I visit many. The people are always so welcoming, especially Front Desk and Globe Cafe. The location is excellent if you want the SIP area - it is not so good for the old town. There is a nice eco-park just across the road that hardly sees any visitors, so it is a quiet haven to explore. The traffic can be a little noisy in the mornings as the hotel is next to a major artery leading to the Shanghai-Nanjing highway. The prices are very reasonable - much cheaper than those closer to the commercial centre of the SIP, as well as the old town.

Stayed at this hotel last week on the King Bed Room on level 11.
The carpet in the coridor and in the room was soiled & dusty.

Bedroom: spacious, noise insulation is very bad as I can hear trucks all over the night.
Bathroom: clean, but there is a smell of vomit in the bathroom!!
Staff: was friendly, but like anywhere else in China, they have a very limited English.
Location: very good as it is probably the only hotel in the Suzhou East Industrial areas.
Breakfast: buffet breakfast was okay.

Stayed earlier in the year and was much better. This time the restaurant was closed and the food provided for breakfast poor. A lot of the floor covereings are soiled/worn and the hotel could really do with refurbishment. Window catch broken so not able to keep the busy road noise out of the room. Seemed very quiet with few guests so maybe others have found the same. The staff try their best but can't make up what is around them.
