This is a very very local Chinese hotel, it probably doesn't get a lot of international tourists.

With that said, I do however recommend the hotel as it is actually very convenient. It is part of a huge complex with alot of leisure activities on offer including gym, spa, pool, bowling, ktv, etc.

There are lots of restaurants nearby with various varieties from fast food to high end dining.

The rooms are decent size. I got a corner room and found it to be spacious.

The breakfast is so so, though better than your average Chinese hotel, but not comparable to your standard Shangri-la or Intercontinental (both of which are in the centre of the town, but triple the price). During my stay (though I wasn't really in the room for all that long), I couldn't really find any faults, except the location, but taxis are plentiful and all taxi drivers will know it (as long as you give the Chinese name).

Basically did not now what was hotel star rating before checked in. Hotel was booked by a client. Hotel is located 20 minutes walk from downtown, 5 minutes in a cab if you manage to get one next to busy street. Exteriors looks OK, main lobby impressive Chinese style... 2 girls at the check in counter with poor English. Rooms small and sleazy, beddings would need some ironing, poor ventilation. I stayed there in January and room was 25 C and could not get temperature lowered. Small bathroom, medium hygiene standards, condoms provided (!!!)...only Chinese seafood restaurant closed on check-in around 2 pm. Didi not look to good anyway...

Construction

Like many things in China, you can only look, but can't use. Starting with the front desk, the drawers behind it had shiny knobs, matte knobs, and many even had screws as handles to open and close the drawer. I guess you do what you have to, but for a five star hotel, it would seem like they would be able to afford real handles.

In the room, it all seemed nice except for the bathroom. The bathroom caulk/sealant didn't completely go around the tub, and much of it was left on the tiles. It wasn't a very professional job. The hole in the wooden door for the bathroom did not line up with the lock so that there was a visible hole in the door. And last on the bathroom side, the door frame did not have the 45 degree angle cuts at the corners. Unlike many door frames that have the top horizontal piece lying on top of the two vertical sides, this door frame had the top horizontal piece in between the two vertical sides.

The Room

In the room, the lighting was slightly inadequate as there were no lights in front of the mirror.

The bathroom was rigged so that it was nearly impossible to take a bath. I personally had to plug the drain with a towel and keep the water running.

Breakfast

The breakfast was complimentary for one person and was not worth the extra money. Breakfast ends at 10am, but I would suggest getting there before 9. After 9, they stopped refilling the juices and were very slow in replacing the dishes, even though there were at least 50 people left trying to pick at the leftovers. Do not be surprised if someone says that they'll do something (like refilling the juices), and nothing gets done.

It consisted of fried rice, chow mein, eggs, bread, juice, veggies and meat. However, this is probably one of the worst places to eat Chinese food in China. On the plus side, I didn't get diarrhea.

Service

The service was horrible. We arrived very early and even though the room wasn't ready, they told us, "We don't have your reservation." In fact, we made the reservation the day before. And then they were very short when we asked if we could leave our luggage there for the morning. After a bit of talking to the guys, we were allowed to leave our luggage in the lobby, with everyone else's, unguarded behind a podium.

As for breakfast service, please see above.

The maid service, forgot to restock two facial towels so we were stuck with washing our faces with hand towels.

Location

I personally liked the location of the hotel except for the fact that it was not easy to find a cab at the hotel. You would actually need to walk out to the corner in order to catch a cab during the day, or wait until one of the guests arrive at hotel in a cab.

The location is not very busy, so if you like nightlife and walking to your destination, this is not the best location for you.

Travel Agency (Dalian Newline Travel)

Worst travel agency I've encountered in China. We purchased tickets for our return trip by boat here and it was a complete mistake. First of all the tickets had a 10RMB service charge that was not added on our trip to Dalian. Secondly, there was constant procrastination. We purchased our tickets around noon the day before our departure. We were told that the tickets would arrive later that evening. We returned around 5pm to check the status of our tickets and were told again, that they would be delivered later that evening. We then came back around 9pm and were told that the tickets were not delivered and that they would be delivered around 8 or 9am the next morning. We arrive the next morning before breakfast at around 9am and are told that the tickets would be delivered at 10:30am. Please keep in mind, that our boat leaves at 12:20pm, and we need to take a cab to the harbor, and then find the right bus to take us to the boat. Basically, if the tickets did not arrive by 10:30, we would have to time everything extremely well. We came back at 10:15 and the tickets were still not there. They told us not to worry because there would be no traffic to the harbor and that the cabs don't run through downtown. Our tickets arrived at 10:35am. We hopped in a cab to the harbor, and guess what? It went straight through downtown!

If you like constant procrastination and being lied to, you are welcome to try Dalian Newline Travel. A better hotel would have weeded out businesses with horrible service. But looking at the service of this hotel, I am not surprised that they are still there.

Bottom line. I've had better service in China at KFC.
