“Not bad”

Furong Ancient Street

It was a nice street in terms of the variety of foods offered, and it was quite beautiful as long as you remember to not breathe. And do be careful to avoid walking in the "water" that flooded much of the street.

You have to see this street of the oldish buildings and the atmosphere if you visit Jinan. However at the weekends and on holidays it is far too busy with far too many people ambling along getting in each others' way and big queues outside the most popular fast food windows blocking the fairly narrow street.

The congestion and dust have not been helped recently by the digging up of the middle of the road to lay what looks like a new sewage or water system.

We tried some of the fast food and it was quite tasty

As some people have said some of the other streets nearby, particularly the ones nearer Da Ming Lake are also interesting. We had two half litres of beer in one small place with tiny tables and chairs on the street for 5 Yaun

We had a little difficult finding this place and had to ask several people as it was hidden behind more major streets and shopping places. The street was absolutely jammed at lunchtime during the National Holiday week. It had many options for street food, lots of delicious choices, and felt very authentic. It was a great place to get a feel for China. However, if you want a calm, hygienic environment for eating you might want to choose some place else.

Worth a visit for the food options but for glimpses of the more 'ancient' architecture go to the lanes just north west of here. Furong Lu is worth a visit for dining though with many street vendors and lots of different snack style foods from all over China. If walking to Daming Lake from the Square then a detour via here is worthwhile. A small Guandi Temple is also in the street and worth a look - if you can understand Chinese you can have your fortune read for a donation.
