“Very enjoyable Hostel!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

I was staying a whole weekend in Kaiyue International Youth Hostel. It is very good to reach (10 min. Taxi from the station) and is located very close to the old town, Qingdao Bay and not too far away from the Beer Street. They also provide you with bikes to discover as much as you can of Qingdao. The Restaurant and Lounge area of the Hostel is just great and I enjoyed some good meals there. The rooms are big, clean and comfortable and the staff quite helpful. I really enjoyed it and would stay in Kaiyue International Youth Hostel again when I come back to Qingdao.

I spent 2 nights in this hostel and it was my first time staying in a hostel, we booked the twin room with private bathroom. The hostel is located in a very convenient area and many small restaurants and attractions, including the no. 6 beach are within walking distance. The hostel is pretty old and the room smelled a bit musty when we first arrived but the cleaning staff quickly freshened it up after we complained to the front desk. The room however was very clean and supplied with clean towels. Also, the front desk staff was very helpful and spoke very good English. The bar was also a very pretty decent place to relax and enjoy a nice drink, plus the cakes were AWESOME. Overall it was a good stay.

We stayed in a double room with a shared bathroom for six nights. The hostel is an old church so the rooms are a bit strange and pretty worn. But we think they keep this hostel very clean and we saw them clean the shared bathrooms and toilets several times a day. The 4th floor has a nice (but small) terrace and library/lounge area. The lounge/bar area is big and cosy but sadly the food and drinks are a bit expensive and it smells a bit of wet stone/concrete.

Location is good, very close to a hectic food street where you can find any kind of food.

Friendly and happy staff.

Just stayed 3 nights at this hostel and generally speaking it's good, I have never tried hostel before though so can't compare with others out there. I stayed in a two bed room with shared shower/toilet facilities. the room is very basic, but the bedding is clean, no cleaning during your stay. there is NO taxi outside the train station that would like to take me to the hostel as probably they think the distance is not far away, so i had to figure out myself and walked about 25minutes uphill in the rain which is not pleasant. the food was pizza, pasta etc western meal lovely, qingdao beer 10yuan/bottle, you can relax in the bar playing pool etc. however the best is the little shop across the road where you can find bagged beer 6yuan/bag, funny way but fun. staff are helpful. the best point is meeting people from all over the world, good converstaions. (comments from an overseas chinese from the UK)

Room Tip: twin room with bathroom facilities

The place is built in an old church, the rooms are rather clean, the bar/lounge is very comfy and cosy. The place offers free WIFI in the rooms and everywhere in the hotel (except 4th floor i believe), The hotel is very quiet, close to the center, plenty of places to eat around.
The staff is friendly (except the bar tender...), a few speak english. We had minor issues like : nobody knew where the toilet paper was kept so we had to go buy some.
I got food poisoned with their fried rice ! It's much safer to eat fresh seafood on the street than eat in their bar.
The drinks are not that cheap, although you pay less if you're staying at the bar.
The prices vary according to the date, but it's roughly 200 RMB for a double room, with WIFI, hot shower, TV (all in chinese), towels.

Room Tip: is you need WIFI, don't go on the 4th floor.

We used this place for several nights in September 2011. Private room for two. CNY 180 per night at that time. The restaurant had a lot of space and we felt comfortable being there without ordering anything. We didn't know other places in China back then but looking back I can tell you that if you are not comfortable speaking Chinese then don't try nice Chinese hotels, go to a place like this. The staff all speak great English and are really helpful. The place was not in that good a condition but nothing you can't handle and not that dirty either. The only thing I didn't like was people smoking in the hallways. We are going back again. The location is good for some tourism although if you have something specific in mind or want to go to the direction of the City Hall then you are a ways.

Site is asking for a more recent review than 2011 September but I feel like I qualify because we booked it again for an overnight stay to remember what our first trip to Qingdao was like. We had a good time and decided to relocate here!

Room Tip: Children should probably not stay in the dorm rooms but it's okay for families to stay in the p...

The room was one double and a single bed. Bathroom was good.Cleaning staff noisy in the morning. Some whump whump from the bar downstairs. We were on the second floor. Our light kept going on and off. (room 202).
Staff were friendly and competent.Didn't sample the coffee and food. Someone I knew did and said the breakfast was chinese sausage, miniscule bacon eggs and i think toast. I was told it was a bit pricey.
In a good central area of town.
Asked for directions to the catholic church and another place. Would have appreciated a map.
overall feel this is a money spinner and your the spun.Would have appreciated a little less web still not a bad doss.

Room Tip: take the top floor maybe less noise from the bar.
