We ate at this restaurant in August after visiting the beer festival,it was very busy but we were served fairly quickly.

The food is typical German fare and fairly calorific although we did have salads for starters. We didn't have the pork knuckle as we had a small child with us and it would have been too long to wait.

We enjoyed our meal and would visit again.

We encountered "Zur Bierstube" in the German street, which seems to be the newer location of the two. The food was good. Best German sausages we had so far in China. The staff is nice but they have difficulty getting the order right. We ordered as side dishes mashed potatoes and sauerkraut but got potato salad instead. We decided to try the "Zur Bierstube" of Nanling Road due to the fact that is has outdoor seating. There the order went ok. One of the dishes we had ordered was the Erbsensuppe which looked real good on the menu. Once we received and tried it we were very disappointed since it did not taste like anything, more like a water soup. We told the waitress and she said: "sorry". The owner was there and my husband told him that the dish was not good but he did seem not to care and it was charged just like nothing had happened. Well, they brought out a few salt sticks which I guess were meant to be a way "making good", but they did not since we did not particularly care for them and did not eat them.
I gave an average rating due to the fact that the Erbsensuppe thing should not be dealt with the way it was done.

Went here with friends after church on Sunday. Wanted to try the famed pork knuckle.

We were invited to pick our own seats, "anywhere in the restaurant", friendly staff that spoke pretty decent english.

The menu had pictures and english and chinese, which was a nice touch. We ordered a pork knuckle and each tried the pea soup. If you do order the knuckle, keep in mind that it will take at least 45 minutes (we waited an hour) for the dish to be served.

The meal comes with complimentary toasted white bread, butter and some liverwurst. We ordered regular black coffee that was fresh, hot, and smelled and tasted wonderful. The pea soup arrived, and while it tasted ok, instead of ham, there were chopped up hot dogs in it. Kind of disappointing.

Hoffbrau beer is reasonably priced and nice and cool, but not cold, which seems to be a trend in China. Personally I like my beer frosty cold.

The pork knuckle arrived and was decent, but didn't feel like it was cooked for 45 minutes. The inside temperature was warm. However, the taste was very good, and served with generous amounts of sauerkraut.

They have outdoor seating but it was raining. When we walked out, the waitress even offered to walk us out with an umbrella and call us a taxicab. It was a very nice touch.
Overall, its a 4 out of 5. We'll be back to try the other things on the menu.

Zur Bierstube serves delicious German food excellent service. The food presentation and the Germen intimate are great. Frederik, as well as all the entire staff, make you a German feeling.
If you enjoy German décor, good food and ice cold Jagermeister you have to try Zur Bierstube in Laoshan
