We stayed at the hotel for two nights on our trip around China. The hotels location is outside of the city centre around 15 minutes in a taxi. The hotel is at the exhibition centre and there is no a lot around it although having been to the city centre there is not a lot there either. We had a standard double room booked and having checked in and got to the room we had been given a twin bedroom (two single beds). We contacted the front desk and spoke to three different people, after trying to explain in english the problem we were told that this was a standard double room!! We could not be bothered to try anymore so just put up with the room given to us. The room was fairly small in size and there was hardly any wardrobe space for clothes. There was not one drawer in the whole room!!!! The carpet looked quite dirty and had quite a few stains on it! The bathroom was again tiny and did not look particularly clean.
The staff at the hotel were fairly helpful but the language difference was a problem at times.
We did not eat at the hotel so I cannot comment on the restaurants here. The leaflets in the hotel seemed to imply that they were partners/linked in some way with the Intercontinental Hotel next door. We did eat at the Intercontinental Hotel next door at the Italian restaurant and this was outstanding, It was reasonably priced as well. To be honest if we ever returned to Chnagdu I think we would stay at the Intercintinental Hotel instead.
We got a taxi to the hotel from the airport and this cost us around £5 (46 Yuan). Back to the airport it cost us £6 (60 Yuan) due to the toll booth.
We got a taxi from the hotel to Giant Panda Breeding Centre which cost us around £8 (80 Yuan) and got the 902 sightseeing bus(if you can call it that) back to the city centre cost 20p each (2 Yuan). We then got a taxi back from the city centre to the hotel which cost around £4 (40 Yuan). To be honest may be worth getting a taxi back from the Panda Centre as we did not find much to do in the city centre.

The hotel is located in the outskirts of the city, but is one of the best hotels in Chengdu.

The Holiday Inn, West Century City, Chengdu is a good (above average) business hotel, which is grand looking, comfortable, economical and good value for money.

Location: Well located, just a small taxi ride/ 20 minute walk from the TianFu IT Park. So, it is extremely well located and easily accessible. From the airport, it is about a 30 minute taxi ride and costs about 50-60 RMB.

Dining: They have multiple restaurants, including a lobby lounge offering muti-cuisine fare with decent wines. There is a Brazilian BBQ restaurant at the top floor, which, to be honest, I found a little amusing – a Brazilian BBQ restaurant with Chinese crooners belting out live music was not on my most expected list. But the food was fine and we all enjoyed it. The breakfast buffet is simply outstanding – it is wide and varied and tastes great. So, top marks on the food side.

Rooms: Spacious and well equipped. But, my biggest negative point of the hotel is here: The air-conditioning unit could not be controlled. Since it was cold and chilly outside, the hotel management had set it to blow hot (yes – hot!) air and so the room was really too warm and dry. Finally, I had to switch it off completely and open up the windows to cool the room down.

Service: Needless to ask, the service was outstanding show casing the Chinese forte for serving their customers well. Not all can speak or understand English, making a few things difficult, but they all make their best attempts to get you what you want.

Business facilities: All rooms have high-speed internet connection, charged at a maximum of 80 RMB a day. It can be availed on an hourly basis also. If negotiated during booking, it can be obtained free as well. There is also a business centre with reasonable facilities (computers, internet, copying, fax etc)

Shops: There is a convenience store, salon, florist etc.

Healthclub: This is good and bad in parts. The Gym was a mini-letdown because the equipment is average. In fact, the treadmills squeaked and there were only a few weight machines. The massage parlour, however, was apparently extremely good (my colleagues mentioned that it was extremely relaxing).

Overall, if only the air-conditioning was working well, I would have certainly rated this higher. But, that simply may be due to the current weather situation there and reflects the hotels enthusiasm to overcome that.

I stayed here for the WCG 2009 that took place at the New International Convention Centre. the convention centre is located right outside the hotel, so it's very convenient...
we took a taxi from the airport. we asked about a taxi at the touristic info centre, which was a mistake. a lady there sayd it would be 100 youan the taxi to the hotel and we said ok. then she took us outside and right to the parking where she had us all in an old car that was not even a taxi but her husband's car. we paid 100 youan for a trip that would have costed 40 youan with a real taxi...
at the hotel we asked for a double room with an extra bed. the room is ok, but the extra bed makes it so much smaller :)) we could hardly move inside.
we stayed here 6 nights. 3 out of six we only had 2 towels because the maide was not paying attention that the room has an extra bed,
the personnel is very nice, but they hardly speak or understand any english. they try hard though and are quite lovely.
very good food at the restaurants, good breakfast, we did not try the room service.
the night club at the 19th floor is always empty :((
the hotel does not have a pool but has a spa with massage and sauna.
the taxi here are very cheap. so the beer and the food. a trip to JianLi in the downtown costa around 25 youan. beware: the city is absolutely huge. anyway, the streets are very large and quite empty. this does not mean they are safe. chinese people can't drive and they do not follow any rules while driving. i was so (--)scared!!!!
as a conclusion, hollyday inn west century is a good choice if you come for any event at the new intl convention centre. pay attention, there is another hollyday inn hotel on the same street with this one, 3 minutes walking distance. it does not look as well as west century but is pretty decent too from the outside...

This hotel was a bit hard for the cab driver to find, when I arrived at the airport I showed the driver a note with a chines characters, but he was on the line to the head office most of the trip, but he found it in the end. I arrived late , and there was no doorman to help with the luggage. ( arrived at the wrong one ) as there are 2 sites. The reception was very helpful thought, and because it was raining, they let me stay at this East site. They spoke good English. The room was great, but the bed was So good, have not tried a better one in China...
I would recommend this hotel just for the bed. Breakfast was great also.
