“Kempinski style food and beverage experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

One of the reasons why I prefer Kempinski in China is their food and beverage offering. Yes, I love Paulaner but also their breakfast is good just like here in Chengdu. We stayed only one night but I'll def return soon to discover more of Chengdu. We had a short but comfortable stay, only small downside is the word product compared to other hotels of the group. Wasn't able to try the pool or gym this time. A nice feature are the jet showers.

Dear RolandUO,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent experience

It is with great pleasure to learn that you enjoyed your time at our hotel and that almost everything was to your satisfaction.

I am delighted to hear that you love the good old traditions of German food & beer, Paulaner Braeuhaus is Chengdu’s premier and most popular micro-brewery and is a favorite amongst locals, overseas guests and Paulaner members alike. We currently celebrate the infamous Octoberfest from the 1st until 5th September 2014 with a special Octoberfest Beer.

Pertaining our room product you will be delighted to hear that we are in the process of a renovation project for the entire Hotel, the Kempinski Hotel Chengdu will present itself thereafter in a modern design and décor, accompanied with the best quality and exclusive service to our guests.

We look forward to welcome you again to our hotel in the not so distant future and if you require any suggestions we are delighted to assist you in your leisure program to make your stay even more comfortable.

With kind regards,

I was a regular to Kempinski Beijing in the 1990's, but has been absent from Kempinski in China since I changed job. However, as my company's Shanghai subsidiary entered a contract with Kempinski Pudong, I have become again a regular to Kempinski. My view of Kempinski had always been that it is a utilitarian 5-star hotel, up-to-expectation but somewhat cold.

I stayed with Kempinski Chengdu for the first time last week for two nights. I was disappointed. The property is aged, and the design and decor are not up to 5-star standard. The services are functional as other Kempinski's. It's location is also a little off the center of the city, although very convenient access to the airport freeway.

It seems to me that Kempinski is trying to catch up as it had lagged behind other major hotel chians in China. It has become less selective in choosing the properties it manages. The Shanghai Pudong one is a good property it took over, but the Chengdu one was a bad choice.

Beware of choosing which Kempinski to stay in China!

I had stayed in this hotel for 1 night in Jun 2014 for a business trip. I checked in late - so when I came down to lobby for some dinner - they were about to close the restaurant at around 11.

Room - very good and luxorious. Bathroom - beautiful.

Wi-fi is available only in the hotel room and the hotel lobby - different password for connecting at both places - which is very painful.

Breakfast spread is very good. I being an vegetarian, could not try everything though - but found some varieties of items for myself.

Overall a great hotel - right in the centre of Chengdu.

Chengdu is a sleepy town as compared to Beijing.

We stayed with friends at Kempinski Hotel Chengdu for a couple of nights. The facilities and food are excellent. The breakfast buffet is really extensive, with both Eastern and Western food. I am usually quite fussy but this was not the case at all in this hotel.
The service is really good too. We had a slight problem with our booking but this was resolved immediately.
I definitely recommend this hotel.

It's a excellent business hotel in a good location. Within walking distance to mass rapid transit, plus accessible to the business district.

Room is well equipped with amenities for the business travellers, Not a hotel for the leisure and family travellers though.

The Kempinski Chengdu lived up to the expectations. Travelling frequently in China especially not always in the major cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, the Chengdu Kempinski
definitely has a touch of European service. Very friendly and helpful staff which is not always common in China.

Rooms were nice, large enough and most important, very clean.
The breakfast buffet was very good of course a bit on the Chinese side but everything fresh and tasty.
The Paulaner restaurant seems to be well established as many Chinese guests were there during my 4 day stay and the beer and the food were very good. Nice Beergarden.
In addition the hotel features a Kempi Deli Bakery shop with good bread and yummy cakes.
My late afternoon delight.
The hotel is located not far from the American and German consulate and other important venues and it took only 20 minutes from the airport to reach to the Kempinski.
There are taxi's on stand-by or if not the staff immediately went out to the street and called one.

Overall I felt extremely well taken care off and will definitely come back on my next trip to Chengdu.

Room Tip: Executive rooms! You can use the executive lounge for breakfast, some drinks and snacks.

This was a 3 night stay business trip and the location was central to where the meetings were held. The general ambiance is more like a high end local hotel than one of an international brand. Also smoking is still permitted throughout the hotel which can be unpleasant at times. The rooms are well appointed but old, sleep quality is good if you are in a good room.
If you are planning on a short stay, this hotel or any others in its class will suffice but do not expect anything more.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the room due to traffic noice.
