We recently stayed at this hotel as a starting point for touring the Tibetan regions of western Sichuan. The entrance to the lobby was undergoing some renovation, so didn't give the best first impression of the hotel. Otherwise, we enjoyed the hotel. We found the rooms clean and quiet, high-speed network Internet connections and traveler friendly universal electrical outlets throughout the rooms (wi-fi in the lobby area). The hotel is only a block from the river, which is lined with teahouses and walking paths, and a short walk to Wuhouchi street, which boasts a large collection of beer gardens, and literally dozens of places to sample and buy tea and teaware, all of which is quite famous in this area of China. The street leads to the Wuhou temple, gardens and museums, all of which I would consider "must-see" attractions in Chengdu. The garden's collection of bonsai trees alone was worth the walk and the reasonable entrance fee, and the museum boasts a collection of meticulously painted statues, mostly from the 17th century.

There is a bar off the lobby, which serves tea, espresso and cappuccinos in the morning in a relaxing area that made it easy to meet up with our traveling companions before heading out on our various journeys. The breakfast buffet upstairs is very substantial, and included everything from typical Chinese breakfast fare (congee, noodles) to Western fare including eggs, ham, potatoes, pastries and coffee, and of course fruit and fruit juices. The biggest surprise however, was the Chinese restaurant on the fifth floor which is quite simply one of the best Chinese restaurants in all of Chengdu. This is a white linen, imported wine, elegant restaurant with literally white glove service and fabulous food. There wasn't a word of English on the menu, but the wait staff offered up an i-Pad with pictures of every dish and every bottle of wine, allowing us to point and order without translation.

the Jinjiang chain is apparently very large and in Chengdu alone, there are many jinjiangs. alas for the purpose of work i had to stay in 1 that is not quite up to mark. situated on the lower floors of a tall commercial building, the overall feel of the lobby is extremely dated, by like 20 years. The room is no better with extremely old fittings and furniture. The "spa/sauna" is a 3rd party- run equally run- down place. you wouldn't want to be touching the jacuzzi water, which I didn't. They do give a discount for hotel guests though, but they will ask you for extra tip, so it's a wash. The room internet was free, so it's good for tourists. Lucky I stayed for only 1 short night

JinJiang Generation Hotel is not terrible, but the service and location definitely leave something to be desired. The front desk staff are pretty apathetic - no facial expressions, emotion or anything! The location is also a concern - no restaurants or even convenience stores nearby. The rooms are cozy and clean, but nonethless, I doubt I would stay here the next time I am in Chengdu for business.

Clean, new comfortable hotel in convenient central situation opposite China Eastern Airlines Office.
Rooms are large and kept spotlessly clean.
Staff efficient and friendly.

My only criticisms would be that the air conditioning could have done with been a little cooler --- I found it difficult to sleep for first few nights. There was a control panel but it did not seem to make any difference.
Also the breakfasts whilst substancial are geared very much for the Chinese palet.Which of course is fine as the majority of guests appear to be Chinese however at a later date if the hotel becomes more popular with Western visitors I would suggest that the menu is reviewed and some alternatives introduced.
For example it would have been nice to have some fresh fruit juice rather than the sweetened cordial.

Generally satisfied though!

Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Steve
