“Awful hotel with lots of traps”
Reviewed 2 April 2012

This hotel has neither character nor comfort to offer. We stayed in an 'executive queen' room. The only positive thing about the room was the smell of new and sturdy wooden furniture. The rest was a bunch of little discomforts turning into gross discomforts.

The bed was hard and bumpy, with an awkward elongated pillow for both people to share. The riverfront view was in fact a noisy 6-lane traffic artery that skirts the Brocade River. The bathroom was the main problem: the drain was too weak, and the shower was a ridiculous 'spa' booth with a choice between low-pressure misty drizzle overhead and a hose-like spurt at the waist level. The bathroom had no door! In fact, none of the rooms I peeked into had bathroom doors.

On the second day of our stay the room wasn't cleaned until we reminded, at 5 pm.

This hotel is a disaster, all pretense and no value.

Room Tip: Riverside rooms are awfully noisy.

We stayed here for 2 days.

It is a typical chinese hotel meaning:
the staff behind the reception doesn't speak english;
the rooms are very smelly, don't get cleaned and in our case the airconditioning didn ot work;
breakfast was only chinese food; not even toast and jelly.

The location was not great either; you have to take a taxi to go the the center.

We spend most of our non-sleeping time in the hotel next door, the 5 star Sofitel.

My advice is to avoid this hotel; there are much much better hotels in town.

Stuck in Chengdu for a few days waiting for a Tibet Visa I decided to
try a few different establishments. The Binjiang is in a great location but the rooms are poorly furnished. I paid about GBP25.00 for a single and was moved twice because of building work going on and a dodgy toilet. However, the furniture and linen in the room I was moved to looked as though it was at least 25 years old and the plumbing in my bathroom was not particularly robust. Some staff on reception were helpful others sullen. Beware too that the hotel has a
fairly lax attitude to non residents circulating in its lobby at night. I suppose if you're desperate it will just about do. The breakfast was uninspiring which was disappointing in a great culinary
city.
