“A beautiful mountain retreat”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

This beautiful lake is in the pine woods with a view of snow-capped mountains in the middle distance. It makes a great contrast with the arid plains near Urumqi. There are some picnic tables among the trees, with a souvenir shop nearby.

“Tianchi - Heavenly lake”
Reviewed 9 October 2013

The Havenly Lake located on the northern side of the Bogeda Peak of the Tianshan Mountains,40-odd kilometers in the east of Fukang county, and 120 kilometers away from Urumqi City in Northwest,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,China. The number of tourists to the Heavenly Lake is on the constant increase. The Heavenly Lake is an alpine drift lake shaped in the Quaternary Glacie period, and was listed by the State as one of the key scenic spots in 1982 Besides,it is good Grade scenic spots.(China standard AAA is overrated) Generally, there are eight famous attraction spots,a few cultural relics and eye catching mountains standing in the Heaven Lake. In winter the beautiful lake is an ideal ski rink. The lake maybe overrated as a scenic spot, not sure what standard they subscribe to, facilities likes toilet is just an okay. Walk way mainly made of timber deck all around, and stone pavement.Avoid going during China National holiday where this spot will be overly overcrowded by their own people, mainly the Chinese (Han) from the many big cities of the east China likes Beijing,Shanghai and Hangzhou.
Toilets and other amenities will be very dirty and messy during their local holidays. You may be denied of good spot to have a good appreciation of the Tian Shan lake.
Take a boat ride for about 20-30 minutes, to really admire the scenic beauty and colorful autumn color of vegetation surrounding the lake. You may also able to see, the Taoist temple perch on the high mountain at one side of the lake. On the way back to Urumqi, I suggest take a bite at a restauarant which serve food according to Muslim standard. Good choice of meat noodle, BBQ lamb and various type of puff and Naan bread of the Urgur people.
For those senior visitors advisable to ride on the electromobile at the last stop by bus to reach the lake? You may also enjoy the breathtaking view on your way up and down the mountain to the lake.

“Very beautiful when you visit it the right way.”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

The bus ride to the lake and the thousands of tourist and local sellers at the bus parking are very annoying. So for a short daytrip the beauty of the lake is not enough to compensate the irritating aspect of Chinese mass tourism. It is surprising how lazy most tourist are, they just get out the of the bus walk 100m take a few pictures and eat something and then go back. If you go there, go early and take your time to walk around the lake. Or even better stay at the lake overnight.

The best way to visit it is actually to bring your own tent and do some trekking in the surrounding mountains (make sure to buy food in urumqi, as at the lakeside you can get only food that is overdate, Naan is available though at double the normal price)

“Tianchi Lake, Urumqi”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

There are a few things to remember when vacationing in China. Avoid the popular sights over the weekends and their national holiday periods.Urumqi has grown to a large city that has change considerably over the past 10 years. It is indeed surprising to find such a beautiful spot just about over an hour drive from the city. It is defintely much better to travel around in a car with a few companions. From the main carpark, you head for the main building to purchase the entrance ticket upon which you board a bus. The bus winds upwards for a few kilometers to the stop point. Here you can take a buggy ride or walk to your sights. This scenic location is huge and you can spent a whole day if you enjoy walking around for a few hours. Best to bring along sandwiches and snacks. There are walks around the lake which give you different views with mountains in the background. It is well-maintained with proper toilet facilities. There is also a boat ride on the lake. There is also a temple that is accessible by walking or the boat. you need to climb up 200 to 300 m of steps upwards to enjoy the high views. On a clear cool day, this is worth it. Enjoy the sights at a slow pace.

“Heavenly view”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

Magnificent views over the lake and surrounding mountains. There is a walking track around the lake, but views are sometimes obscured by the trees. Nevertheless the trees enhance the spectacle.
