“Peaceful Escape”
Reviewed 11 June 2013

This is a sprawling temple complex set in a beautiful forest. It is wonderful to wander through the pavillions and find quiet little tucked-away places for contemplation. Much of the temple looks quite old with any restoration having been tastefully done. When we visited, there were a lot of new buildings being constructed near the car park. This probably means that there will be restaurants, a hotel and possibly even entrance fee in the future. Packs of tourist groups would certainly destroy the ambience of this lovely old monastery. At present, however, only the occasional traffic noise from the nearby freeway impacts on the peacefulness of this delightful escape. You can catch bus 759 or 790 from Ningbo East Bus Station. Ask the driver to let you off at the temple stop. The bus takes about 30 minutes.

“Temple in hills”
Reviewed 10 January 2013

About 45 min taxiride from the centre, but still "in the city". Big complex surrounded by old cinammon trees and bamboo forest, so shady even in hot summer, many ponds with fish and turtles, many temple buildings, three pagodas, lots of stone carvings, ancient pieces. Top temple with hundreds of golden/lacquered statues. Easy to walk around.

“Interesting”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

It was interesting to see how the Monks used to live and how they still live and provide for the poor. The architecture was great. This temple was in a wonderfully serene area and I combined a visit to Dong Qian Lake, which was beautiful with the visit to Asoka Temple. It made for a lovely day outside the city limits of Ningbo
