We were really happy with our stay here.

We had a twin room which being on the corner of the corridor was possibly bigger than the majority. It also meant we had 2 windows (onto the corridor) but it meant that the air circulated a bit better. Room 201

It was extremely humid, but that was due to the weather, not the hotel. For a more comfortable stay, I would opt for some air con next time if available.

There was no hot water but it was so hot, it didn't matter. The bathroom was small but totally functional as a wet room.

The cleanliness of the place was second to none. It was spotless and our room was thoroughly cleaned everyday.

Internet was only available on the landing but they had a deck chair and hammock in this area to chill on while surfing which was really nice and airy.

The restaurant adjoining the hostel served a lovely fruit salad for breakfast and omelette was ok too. Good coffee and friendly service.

The dude when we checked in could have been a bit more friendly but the girl who did the other shift made up for his lack in skills.

I really thought this place was good value, although I have been travelling for 3 months through South America and on a budget, so have come to not expect too much.

Situated close to the city center, Casa Baluarte is a charming place to discover Cartagena. We had two rooms in the upper floor, one pretty small with air conditioning and a 3-bed-room with a lot of space. Don't expect luxury in the rooms but cleanliness. There are several cosy places to relax like a beautifull patio with a big mangotree in the center. Our breakfast (not included) we had in the caffee Lunatico in the same building right next door. What a great place! To the very center of Cartagena, incredible beautiful and worth while to visit during the evening ours, it is just a five minutes walk. Have a walk around the corner to Plaza de la Trinidad, where you find nice restaurantes in a calm aerea.

Room Tip: Try to get your room in the back part of the hotel.

On a friends advice, we stayed outside the walled city in Cartagena in Getsemani (Only a 7-8 mins walk from the centre). The area itself is lovely, but the street - calle media luna, is where all the hostels and bars are, and it gets very loud and noisy.
The B&B itself in clean and pleasant.
My broth and I were travelling, and we had requested of 2 single beds, but when we arrived, they hand't give us 2 single beds and refused to entertain our request. The staff is not very friendly, the rooms are TINY and the bathrooms even tinier! There is not hot water (apparently most hotels in Cartagena don't have hot water!!!), and again when we requested it, we were flatly denied it.
Though the overall experience wasn't bad - I would not go back and stay there, and would prefer to stay in one of the charming old hotels in the walled city.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floors if you absolutely must!

My review would have been better, however due to a miscommunication on their part I almost ended up with no place to stay for one night. Luckily I resolved that issue and found a much nicer hostel for less around the corner. But when I went back with a Colombian friend to translate and try to rectify the issue they would neither admit the mistake nor compromise. I was not being unreasonable. Very poor customer service in my opinion. This was not the first communication issue during my stay here, but the worst.
With that being said I will say the rooms are quite small but modern and kept very clean. I enjoyed lounging in the hammock when it was free. I found the wi-fi spotty which was a major annoyance for me. The best part of the is place is the cafe attached to it.

We walked in to Casa Baluarte because we were first sitting in their cafe, looking for another accomodation as we did not like our hostel at all. We could not see any rooms because they were fully booked that night, but for the following night it was fine. We agreed because the patio looked really clean and nice and the recepcionist was very friendly.
When we got our room (on the first floor with ventilation) we were happy about our decision although the room was very small. But clean with a good mattress, where we slept like babie and you can sit in their nice patio enjoying a strong wifi signal.
The staff is always friendly and helpful and in their cafe you get really nice a la carte breakfasts and good lunch. They also arrange door-to-door transport if you decide to go to Santa Marta or Taganga. We would definitely stay there again.

Nice hotel in a great location, City center is 10 minutes walk, many bars and restaurants around, try the breakfast in Cafe lunatica.
Very affordable option if you want A/C room. The rooms are small but clean, no wifi signal in room but better in common areas.
The staff was freindly and helpful
