Try and avoid this hotel and go for something more recently upgraded. Incredible humidity in the rooms (it is the season, however noisy aircon leaves damp everywhere). Breakfast limited. Nice beach. Overal showing its age

Room Tip: get a room on the first or second floor

So if you're traveling with children (we were) it's a great hotel. You'll have to drag them out of the pool or one of the countless activities available to them. If you're not traveling with kids, I'd go downtown or to the old city.

I really expected much more available for the adults as well but it just isn't there. If you'd like to do anything, other than hotel activities, be prepared to spend a lot of time in a cab. It's a great private beach, but you pay for that in the long run by being away from everything. If I go again, I'll be staying downtown where everything is, probably the Hilton.

The food in the hotel is fine - nothing spectacular and there's really only one place to sit a grab a drink at night in the hotel.

As for the rooms, we had a suite. It's was just good. Not a lot of space, a cheesy tile floor - it just wasn't very comfortable. The grounds are wonderful, the staff was great. All in all a nice experience, particularly for the little one, but I wouldn't stay here again.

This hotel is great. Nice private beach. Breakfast is really good. Staff is friendly and nice. I hosted my Wedding in this hotel. Seventy-five % of my guests stay in Las Americas. Everybody like it. Close to the old and modern city. Nice open concept.

We had a really nice time. Staff were corteous and helpful.
The hotel is well mantained with spacious rooms.
The pool area is fantastic, children had a lot of fun.
The beach is quiet and clean.
Staff gave good suggestions regarding day-trips, restaurants and shows.
The only draw back is that you will need a taxi to go to the historical area in Cartagena.

I am a hotel executive for a large resort in Florida andf I must say the staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean and I loved the private beach. Not having vendors on you at the beach was very nice. Beware they have a parrot that is very loud. Close your balcony door unless you want to wake up with him. They are opening a new hotel next door in a few months. I look forward to staying there in the future!

Also they have a little salon and I took a shot and got a haircut... They did a great job!

Stay away from the Hard Rock Cartagena. The food is overpriced and is not very good.

But all great at the hotel!

You really can't go wrong at this hotel. It is close to the airport, very secure, has a private beach, beautiful pool, and great staff. WiFi is free and very fast. The breakfast buffet is incredible--there is so much to choose from, and the seating is outside and very pleasant. And if you eat too much at the buffet, there is a great fitness center with plenty of equipment to work off your breakfast pancakes. The rooms were pretty basic, but clean, with very comfortable beds and balconies. However, I wish they provided an iron and ironing board in the room, which they don't. The location is away from the main commercial area and the old city, but everything is a quick and easy cab drive away. And there is the added advantage of the long stretch of private beach that this hotel occupies. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The old city is beautiful and charming. One "must see" is La Popa, which is a convent situated on a mountain overlooking the city. The vews are spectacular!

Finally, for some reason Colombia has an unfair reputation for being unsafe. I assure you that is not true. I never had a problem anywhere in Cartagena, and the people were very warm and welcoming everywhere. This was my first visit to Cartagena and I would definitely go back, hopefully with a visit to Bogota and Medellin as well.

First of all we felt very safe in Cartagena. We went into the historical walled city several times...a couple of times in the evening and still felt safe. The rooms were more basic than we were used to but they were very clean, beds and pillows very comfortable with a hammock on the balcony. It is the only resort located right on the beach and it is the only private beach. The beach has soft dark sand & the water is not turquoise but it had great waves to play in. We never had a problem getting loungers on the beach although they were not very comfortable. The loungers at the pool were much better. Also, the water at the beach & pool was warm . There was a warm jacuzzi by the pool. We had perfect weather with the temperatures 30-33 degrees every day with sun every day for 2 weeks...never needed a sweater at night. It had 1 a la carte but it wasn't worth going to and they spoke no English and no English on the menu. The buffet was good and they also had a menu the you could order from at lunch & dinner. The menu items weres very good especially the filet mignon and linguine with shrimp. The tiramisu, brownie with pecans, mandarin ice cream and chocolate ganache cake were great. There are certain items on the menu that have stars beside them & you have to pay extra for these. The only down side was that you could only have domestic drinks...rum drinks, beer and wine(which was good). If you wanted gin, vodka, rye, scotch or liquers you had to pay for them $6). The internet was free and fast and you didn't have to pay for the safes in the room. The hotel also has a free shuttle to and from the walled city. The staff did not speak much English but there was always at least one person at the buffet who spoke English. The front desk staff also spoke English. If you had any problems or needed any info you could always ask for Edwin who was fabulous. One of our friends got an ear infection, they called Edwin to translate for the doctor, he was examined and prescribed medication and it was delivered to the hotel in 20 minutes. There was no charge for the doctor! Our waiters at the buffet, Ever & Never (yes it is really their names) were great and Claudia at the lobby bar as well. We went to the Totumo mud volcano and it was quite an experience. When we got out of the mud and went down to the lagoon to wash, off there are ladies there to wash you off. It was quite a surprise when they undid your bathing suit to take off to wash it. You can always say no. The guided tour of Cartagena was well worth it and very informative. All in all it was a great trip
