“Great beach and great location”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

20 minutes from the airport and you are already in the hotel. Check in is only at 3 so plan accordingly. You can hit the beach right away if your room is not ready. I had a nice room in the 8th floor with an ocean view. The room was very airy and well lighted , but some few problems-the balcony door didn't lock and there was a gap in the connecting door so you could hear the neighbors and they can hear you as well. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I had a drink at the sports bar but it was totally deserted in the afternoon. I ordered the Papas con Chorizo and it was not great but fillimg.

Casa de Playa at Las Americas has the best beach in Cartagena, a very nice building that is very appropriate for the Caribbean climate, nice restaurants, and in general, helpful and cordial staff. People in Cartagena are generally helpful, cordial, gracious and very pleasant. Most rooms have been redone and they offer beautiful views of the sea from the lovely balconies with "hamacs." You can have a wonderful stay except when you have to deal with the reception area. On arrival, even if the room is ready, they make you wait until 3 pm. They do not appreciate any questions. If the key is not working well, they reprehend you. If you have questions about city tours they will not offer any assistance. You often see them talking to each other while there ale lines of people waiting for them. Staff at the beach, at the pool, at the restaurants and in most places are cordial, helpful and easy to deal with. A small effort on the part of management to train and supervise the reception staff would go a long way into making the stay in Cartagena really wonderful.

Room Tip: Block 4 has renovated rooms.

We were orginally booked at the Casa De Playa and when we saw the room we were very dissapointed. The unit had cracked walls, floor was dirty, bathroom was old, etc. They showed us another unit in Casa De Playa and it was still the same but the room was much cleaner. We asked to move to the newer units (Torre Del Mar). They accomodated us and we moved to a very nice unit with an oceanview. They were very accomodating and I appreciated their willingness to move us. They have great food and different selections/restaurants on site. Thanks Las Americas for accomodating our request to move to the newer buidling. Please rennovate the older side and I think your reviews will be much better.

We were glad to be in the "Casa" rather than the "Torre" because it had a little more character. The rooms were fine, the restaurants OK: Good breakfast, evening buffet a little repetitive but perfectly adequate. Pleasant beach area.

All in all one of the better "business hotels" I've seen recently. The staff were pleasant, and the place was in general well organised.

The hotel is good, with many facilities and a couple of swimming pools; rooms are spacious with a lovely balcony. However it looks old and in need of renovations. It is a short ride from the airport (5-10 min). it is also too big and faceless. I like the beach. It’s big with lots of sun huts, sunbeds for free and you did not need to be up early to get one. It is fine that there are many security guards, as local sellers are coming and going along the beach. The breakfast buffet is OK, the lunch buffet is not so good for its price.
If you want a quiet room with a view ask a room in a block B4.
Do not forget to step by a sister hotel. The view from its top floor is amazing. The roof pool of this hotel is also worth visiting.
However in general the hotel is too expensive for this level of accommodation. We were there for a conference, but moved out when it was over.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room with a view ask a room in a block B4, try to avoid the rooms near pools and...

While staying at Cartagena Old Town for a few days my friend and I decided to go to the beach for the day and decided on the "pasa dia" plan of this hotel. On the phone they said we could have lunch from the buffet or order it from the menu, they also said we were entitled to four beverages for person. When we got there, to our surprise, we were not allowed to order from the menu, the only option was a buffet of very poor quality food and very bad presented trays, in an extremely crowded setting. As for the beverages we could only have national beverages and if we wanted something as a gyn and tonic the price was outrageous. We paid approximately US $75 each for sitting at a beach and a horrible lunch. Not fair!

The hotel is nice and clean, but too old and expensive for the what you get. It is not a new hotel and it need some remodel and refurbish, specially in the bathrooms. The rooms are big and comfortable, the sleep is good, but the rooms by the tennis court are very very noisy if you open the balcony.
The service was good and the stuff was very nice, we request a change of rooms due to the noise and they do it without any problem, but I still think they could do better for what they charge.
The location is nice and in front of the best beaches in Cartagena, but still bad for the Caribbean, if you go to Cartagena, you want stay in the city center, and the Hotel is very far away for walking. The transportation is very expensive, taxis take you to the center for much more than expected taking into account prices of taxis in Colombia. There is no transportation/shuffles from the hotel daily to the city center, but some days a city tour bus in which you are offered tours.
The food was good, but again, over priced for what you get. The breakfast is very good.
I would recommend this hotel, if you have been several times to Cartagena and you want just to be in the hotel or if you have a car and you don't mind paying more.

Room Tip: Request a room by the pool, preferably from floor 2 and up. Don't stay by the tennis court!
