Zalmedina has one of the best locations in Cartagena. Right on San Martin Ave and facing the newest shopping mall NAO of Bocagrande area.
The service has imporved considerably. I heard than from a cople of colleagues and that's why I decided to go back. I was very pleased with the service I received and the quality of the breakfasts.
I recommend that the staff gets more training to use English to communicate better with the customers.
I was happily surprised to find out the internet service covers all floors now. Very convenient!
I recommend it very much.

Room Tip: There are a few rooms with a small balcony overlooking San Martin Ave. I like those when available.

SUPER HAPPY WE CHOSE TO STAY AT ZALMEDINA :-)
Hotel: Cute, modern & clean
Price: BARGIN especially because breakfast is included (not a place for lunch or dinner)
Staff: Professional, sweet & accommodating (Fernando is my favorite)
Room: Small, clean & SUPER comfy beds (great night sleeps)
Location: Central, shopping and near beach (do all your gift shopping next door at the market)

This boutique hotel is a perfect place if you are only looking for a room.
Bathrooms: includes a hair dryer
A/C works great

Room Tip: Ask for room #802 :-)

I purchase a groupon for two last march and this place exceed my expectations. The room was clean and the staff was very helpful. Because of that experience my sister went and stayed there two months later. She says that the price was very reasonable based on the hotel location and the standard room for 2.
I also recommend the rooms of the last floors because of the noise early in the morning of a construction just across the street.

That was my third time satying at Zalmedina and probably the last.

Most of the staff has been replaced by people that are lacking social and business skills except by two ro there people that work at the front desk and speak English well.
I could notice that there is a NEW administration since my last two visits. They seem to be more eager to make more money than to serve customers better. That is sad and disappointing, really. I heard that the same owners are the ones running the hotel now and they really don't know how nor do the care about guests.
The service has gotten worse and the prices have increased dramatically (??)
The view of the ocean is completely blocked now by the new hotel that is being built in front of Zalmedina. The sleep quality can decrease if you get a room facing the street due to the excessive noise almost 24/7. The breakfast is not what it used to be either, they have less food options andit is always the same every single day. I stayed there with a group of associates and they all agreed with me on these facts. i don't picture us going back again any time soon.
For the price they are charging NOW, you can find many more and way better options in Cartagena.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are less noisy.

I am suriprised to see so many good reviews here, because for everybody in our group this was just horrible place to spend one night and to imagine that you could come here for actual holidays makes me desire to do something for the world peace and poor people.
Lonely planet rightly describe weather in Cartagena as brutal heat and humidity, and then i am sure you know this kind of cheap air conditioning which actually makes things even worse. Then all windows are just single metal frame, anything including bamboo frames would be more expensive - and this is not silent place at all, no no.
And then the breakfast when things finished just when we came, and the girl working there.... she woudl be perfect choice for corporate face of chinese company manufacturing something bitter and sour, very sour.
Only the people at the reception - they somehow were far from good at their work but still enjoyable. Maybe in comparison with everything else. Uff, i wrote so much but just let me show you picture of the entry to the hotel.

I stayed at Zalmedina one more time and I had another excellent stay.
The restaurant area looks better now and the food is very good.
There is a new hotel being built in front of Zalmedina and that will take away most of the ocean view, I think. The good thing is that you just go downstairs and cross the street and there you have all the ocean for yourself.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor room and if possible one with balcony, they only have a few though.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel December 2011 and after searching through all kinds of hotels for something that wasn't overly expensive, we decided on this one. When we arrived, we were too early to check in, so the hotel kept our bags in a locked room while we went for lunch. After checking in, the elevator was broken, but the staff was very helpful and carried our bags up to our floor. The room was well maintained, clean and the perfect size for our needs. I really appreciated that you have to use your hotel room card to operate the a/c so that people don't leave it on and how quickly the cool air kicks in once you turn it on. This hotel is in the perfect location for restaurants, shopping and hitting the beach. I would definately stay here again and recommend it to anyone!
