This is a very good option you can do to entertain in Cartagena!

The only thing is that the starting time is about 20:00 hours but if the Chiva is pretty empty you will start late until the chiva is full, the chiva will be driving around the bocagrande area picking up people and the liquor will be only after is full!
Then you ready to go gathering with many more people enjoy the vallenato music and a tour guide that will explain the places where you are driving by!
An stop where all chivas gather and many other people from another chivas will be on a party with life music at the walled city, some of the plans included some typical fried food of cartagena (appetizers), then the party continue and after a short tour through the walled city you arrive to the zona rosa at the getsemani neighborhood you don't have to pay the cover to the disco but the discos around the area are pretty small and pack of people that's why I decided to move on to another place anyways the drinks in the disco are not included!
If you don't drink! you can ask for discount on your package! or anyways they will ask for 40.000 - 45.000 my girlfriend and I we just paid $50.000 both!! all inclusive!
Must better if you catch a chiva that it is half of capacity on that way you don't have to drive around the bocagrande picking up people or you can arrive just on time because you can have many different options to ride and many different prices!

We are a mature couple traveling with our daughter and her boyfriend (In their late twenties) and I thought this trip sounded fun and would appeal to at least one of the generations. Bad mistake. Our expectations were colored by 1) an positive experience on the musical lighted buses in Granada, Nicaragua, which travel a short circular route, popular with locals and tourists, and costing about a dime; and 2) the sales pitch that we would be accessing the streets inside the walled city, stop in various bars/breweries to see and experience different kinds of establishments, and have free drinks and local foods.

The reality was 1) waiting about 45 minutes for the bus beyond the time scheduled, 2) circulating throughout Bocagrande for about 2 hours picking up people at different hotels, 3) paying substantially more than locals, 4) discovering there were FIVE buses, 5) that we never went inside the walled city except for a small corner near the Plaza de las Bovedas where we were given a tapa, 6) cheap rum passed around the buses and 7) everyone finally pouring out of all five buses into a disco. Fortunately we were close to our hotel and walked home wishing we had spent the time in a good restaurant or microbrewery and enjoying activity in the plazas.

Perhaps if we were a large group of unsupervised teenagers this would be a hoot.

Have seen these open sided buses going through the town - all accompanied by screams of delight - so thought we really should try it. Went on a Saturday night so the bus was packed which should have made it good fun. Instead, the first two hours were spent going round Cartagena collecting the next lot of passengers. The bus slowly filled up as we went from hotel to hotel. We had got on at the first collection point so it was a long wait for us. After some two hours we were finally ready and at this point the rum & coke was given out. Should have got our share but the passengers to our right took our rations and refused to hand them over. By the time we reached the old city wall we had had nothing and had to convince the man in charge that we needed something to drink. By then we also needed a bathroom break but the only option was to pay an extortionate fee to use an unrelated (but open) convenience store - who we reckon makes more money from their loo than they do selling food & drink. Did eventually get some rum & coke , but not quick enough for the snacks - Colombians beat us to it which may have been a good thing because they looked luke warm and soggy. Finally ended up at the disco at the end of the tour where we were able to use the toilet for free. Didn't stay - not our type of music. All in all the Chiva was pretty cheap - around £10 each but we definitely have better more fun ways to spend our money
