I was in town for my best friend's wedding and a large group of us decided to take one of these Chiva buses. The music and entertainment is great, however, be prepared for continuous harrassment of people trying to sell you maracas and other things along the ride. The tour is supposed to be 'all you can drink' rum and coke. We got on the bus right outside the clock tower and did not get any kind of alcohol until about 30 minutes in when we had gotten to Bocagrande. This is after driving around in circles until they finally filled up the bus with enough passengers. When we finally got going, it was pretty fun though. The drive was all through Bocagrande and around the walled city. The bottle of rum they give you is very small and you share it with 6 people so depending on how quickly others may drink, you might run out very quickly. They refused to keep the liquor coming and we only received one additional small bottle during the remainder of our trip. Also, the bus stops about 45 minutes in to let people walk around on the wall and pay money to go use a bathroom. When the bus finally gets going again, you end up in Getsemani at some bar that the bus company has a deal with. If you want a ride back home, you are forced to stay at the bar for 1 hour or hang out around the bus. Or you can simply walk or take a cab back. The bar was terrible. Waiters and waitresses would not bring you change for your drink unless you kept asking them about it multiple times. The experience could have been so much better with a few small changes.

This was so much fun! I considered one of the highlights of my trip. Be open to the fact that things in South America move at a different pace. You might leave a little bit later than you were told you would, there might be a few additional rounds around the same block, etc. but it is still fun. Do not expect a lot from the 'food' part of the deal, you would only get either one beef empanada or one arepa with a fried egg, but it is still a taste of typical dishes. We ended uo going to a different club than the one we had free cover for, because that one is where all the chivas stop so of course it is super crowded. We just paid the cover at a different one and returned to our hotel in a taxi.

We booked the Chiva Party bus through our cruise with NCL in November of 2013. We stopped in Cartagena for the day and as hispanic americans (we are cuban), we thought the partty bus with live music and unlimited rum was a great fit for us. It was so fun!!!! We got a tour of the city and sang and danced the whole way through. IT WAS AWESOME!

I had seen the Chiva buses drive past many years ago when I was in a Latin American country and it looked like great fun. In addition, on my Latin friends raved about how much fun they are. So my expectations were high when we took a Chiva bus in Cartagena, Columbia.
We were told it was going to be a three hour experience and that was correct. However, only about 45 minutes of that was spent on the bus. We guess that was so they could save on giving us rum and coke. In addition, the buses were so crowded we could barely move. I was under the impression that we would be able to dance but there was none of that on these buses.
For about an hour they took us to the historic wall and we danced around a little and watched a lady in a colorful dress with food on her head dance around as well. That was kind of fun but I expected to enjoy more fun on the Chiva bus.
Then after a short drive on the bus we stopped at a disco where they played loud music and some of the young people danced.
Overall, it wasn't a great experience. In the future I will look for a Chiva bus with a space in the middle where people can dance and really enjoy the bus ride rather than getting dropped off at the wall and the disco.

It was basically like a mini pub crawl, except you're in a moving bus with no doors and windors and there is a band playing in the bus! People drink and dance and the bus and you also get to discover local dance clubs.
