“Great hotel for city trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012

We started our holiday with 2 nights in this hotel. It is well located in the Poblado area, with lots of restaurants around and a nice downhill walk (20 minutes) to the metro. Breakfast was good, especially considering it was included in the price. Nothing special, it is what it is, an express boutique hotel.

Only thing was that the floor did not seem properly mopped, as there were some hairs.

I had a great stay at this hotel. It is so clean and fresh, i'd swear it was run by a German "putzfrau", and it's a 'green hotel' to boot! The staff we so helpful and friendly, and I was only 3 - 4 blocks from the action of Parque Lleras with its bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. This is a great and safe area of Medellin where it is completely safe to walk at night. I'll be back for sure.

Hotel Poblado Boutique Express is in the nicest area of Medellin called the Poblado, where the earliest development of the city started in 1616. There is not a lot of history today, but it is lush and tropical with many parks, cathedrals, and wonderful creeks that fill the air with the sound of water flowing down the hilly landscape; after frequent downpours they turn into roaring rivers until the excess water runs down the ubiquitous mountain slopes. The hotel is within walking distance of the Metro de Medellin, which is clean and convenient and can get you around the city in minutes. A wide variety of restaurants are tucked away on the side streets from simple afternoon snacks on a wide open air veranda, to a classy gastronomic experience in a plush restaurant. For a nice dinner, great service, and beautiful view of Medellin at night try the revolving restaurant on the top of the Dan Carlton Hotel in Poblado. During the day there are lots of wonderful boutiques if you want to shop and great clubs, bars, and nightlife are just a few blocks walk away. The area is very safe and the water in Medellin is very drinkable.

The hotel is modest. Staff are friendly, but only speak Spanish which is difficult if you're looking for directions, trying to book an excursion, or have questions about your bill on check out. The friend I was traveling with knew enough Spanish to help us get by. The hotel while on a very nice, quiet street, was dark inside. The lobby is clean but not inviting. The breakfast filling with a very nice cook who took special orders, but it’s in the basement and a bit cramped. There is no deck or patio to sit in after a long day. Our first room was small and in the back. We changed to a second floor room with a window onto the street, but the room was small, bathroom tiny and hard to move around in, and it only had a half closet just off the floor. That said the price was very reasonable, location great, and the room clean. It just was not a welcome reprieve after a long day touring.

As to the city a must see is Plazoleta de las Esculturas with over 20 Botero sculptures. in the same place is The Museum of Antioquia with a wonderful collection of national and international artists, as well as a terrific Botero gallery. Jardin Botanica offers a peaceful stroll among beautiful plants, a lake, gorgeous trees, and a contemporary outdoor performance center. For adventure you must go to Zona de Vuelo for a tandem Para gliding experience and a view of Medellin you'll never forget. Jaime and Monsho were great guides in the sky. Hire a taxi for the 45 minute mountainous ride up, which was very reasonable and great fun too. If opportunity presents itself visit Medellin during Alumbrado Navideno (December 7 to January 7) when thousands of Christmas lights are strung around every park and the road along the city canal hosts a carnival of celebration with a new theme each year.

Room Tip: Ask to see several as they vary considerably.

The hotel met and even exceeded my expectations. It is a small hotel in the center of Poblado area; 5 min walk to Park Lleras, 10 min to Park Poblado, on a very quiet, pleasant street. The area itself is lovely - lots of trees, a river running through town, it is really amazing to have such a green and tranquil place in a big city. However, tonns of great restaurants, bars, clubs, casinos, malls are just a short walk or taxi ride away. So, this is the best location to experience the city life :).
We had very warm welcome from the reception and throughout our stay (5 nights) they were always very pleasant and helpful.
The hotel has a nice lobby area with free coffee / tea /water available throughout the day and 2 computers for guests.
The breakfast was also probably the best we had during our trip to Colombia. Nothing seemed too much trouble. They usually prepare eggs with bacon for guests, however, if we wanted eggs done in a different way, the staff always obliged, there is a viarety of cheese, ham, fruites, cereals, and usually some traditional hot dish (or two) which change every day allowing to sample something different.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We were first assigned a room on upper floor which had a great balcony. Later we had to change to another room on ground floor which was less attractive but nevertheless also adequate. The hotel seems to have both tourists and business guests and the rates are cheaper over the weekends.
We did love Medellin, Poblado area and this hotel. Hope to be back :).

Room Tip: Rooms on upper floor are much nicer. We had a room 206 for one night which had a big balcony and we...

We stayed here for 3 nights while we were in Medellin. It's a nice boutique hotel that cost us about $60 per night. It's in poblado, the most upscale neighborhood in Medellin, and is walkable to Parque Lleras and surrounding cafes, bars, and restaurants. The rooms were clean and well appointed (flat screen tv, wifi). Also, a nice included breakfast with eggs, arepas, toast/fruit, with fresh-squeezed juice available. The bathrooms a little small but fine by me. Also, on the weekends, the front rooms get some noise from the bar across the street, but it didn't bother us. We'd stay there again for sure.
