“Nice accomodations, hard beds, loud night life”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2013

This is a really nice hotel with pleasant views of Medellin, close to night life but is one of its foibles. For those who do not "party" until dawn, you may be rudely awakened at 3 in the morning by the revelers when the bar downstairs closes. There is nothing more disturbing than hearing rude people turn on car radios at 3-5 in the morning because THEY are not done drinking and partying. Even hotel guests are rude and speak loudly and slam doors at all hours of the night and early morning. I was more exhausted by these difficult revelers than I was from my day time activities. If the people do not awaken you, then the screeching brakes on the buses or the roar of the motorcycles and mopeds will. Bring ear plugs. It will be your saving grace.

This really takes away from the hotel, which is decent. The wait staff in the restaurant are cordial and professional. The food is tasty albeit bland by my taste-buds. Breakfast is complementary which by far is the best serving they have. Fresh prepared omelets, fruits, and a wonderful selection of prepared buffet items.

The rooms are good but the heater/AC unit in ours did not function well and we could not make it warmer at all. The beds are hard but I believe this to be all accommodations in Columbia. Both my husband and I felt bruised each morning as our a little older hips and shoulders hurt each morning.

Nice place but too loud for a return stay.

I read some of the bad reviews about the bed an breakfast. Some of them were over 2 years ago so I am sure things have changed.

The hotel is very modern, clean and in a great location. I happend to really like the bed though many people complained it was hard. I think a bed is a matter of preference and doesn't reflect on the hotel.

The rooms were large and bathrooms were great too.

The AC worked very well and was super quiet unlike many other hotels i stayed in. Luckily I got a double room for 1 person at only $75 on booking.com so for me the price was well worth the value.

I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet and don't understand how anyone would say otherwise. There are a ton of fresh fruit, baked goods, toast, local dishes, 4-5 juice choices, coffee, hot chocolate, cerals and yogurts and an omelet making station with about 8 ingredients to choose from. What more can you eat or expect from breakfast? Even though it is a buffet, the waiters still help serve you and are very attentative.

Overall I think this hotel was a great stay. I stayed only 1 night and it was only because the hotel was fully booked and I hadn't reserved in advance.

I really recommend this hotel if you can get a good deal on the price!

This hotel is FANTASTIC. While it could be compared to any other normal chain hotel in the U.S., this is a rarity in Colombia. And for the price, you cannot beat it. The rooms are quite spacey and comfortable. The bed is nothing to right home about (generally pretty stiff) and the covers are a sheet and a heavier sheet (keep in mind, the weather in Medellin is generall 70-80s). The breakfast buffet is fantastic and is included with the room. It has a combination of fresh squeezed fruit juices, breads, pastries, calentado (rice dish), eggs, potatoes, arepas, cheeses and deli meats, and coffee. The buffet/breakfast area is on the roof (it has a room covering you) and provides amazing views of Medellin. Additionally, the spa on the top floor is what you might expect from a 4-5 star establishment, and the prices are quite good. Whats more, you can go down to the first floor just outside the lobby and there is a great sushi places and another pub. The great upscale parts of town are all within walking distance. Do yourself a favor and book this hotel for a 4 star experience for a 3 star price.

Room Tip: Each floor is designed around a theme/region of Colombia. Any room would be great as all come with a...

Some days this hotel is super expensive, other days it can be had for less then a hundred USD. The hotel and staff are both very good.

They understand good customer service and although long waits on the phone with the front desk can be frustrating, I was still impressed by english speaking, western mentality customer service.

Also, they have a nice rooftop lounge with a beautiful view, and the breakfast in the morning is very good.

The hotel is located in Poblado, one of the best areas of Medellin, so you cannot beat the location. Like other reviewers mentioned, each floor is a has a theme that portraits each of the five geographical regions of Colombia. We stayed in the Caribe section. The service was EXCELLENT from everyone at the hotel, which is something we really appreciate, they were always greeting you. The breakfast was awesome too, with real juices, and all the waiters and waitresses were on top of making sure you are not missing anything at any point, extremely helpful and they earn all the tips they received from us. I do agree that they could have more selection as far as the fruits since the hotel portraits Colombia and its rich variety of its fruits would be great to see. We booked our room via Expedia under a "run of house" rate. Our room was cozy, clean, with a killer view, nice touch and design that made us extremely comfortable. Nice linens, nice bed, we slept great!. Just be careful with the floor on the shower, as it can be really slippery, maybe the management could think about placing a rubber mat or something in order to avoid any accidents, but I must say that there is a hand rail just in case, just be careful, other than that, great features and design. My only advise if you book this hotel is to do your due diligence at the time of booking. We did it through Expedia, on an air-hotel package basing our decision on their best value claims and guarantees, but later we learned that we could have saved almost $40 a night had we booked it separate. Congratulations to Hotel Diez. WE RECOMMEND IT!

Room Tip: For best pricing, avoid Expedia or just compare with other websites.

Diez Hotel is in one of the best parts of Medellin - El Poblado. It's situated in the foothills and is nestled among a few small parks, and many good shopping streets. It is a short taxi from any of the great malls and only a short walk to the cinema and many great places to eat. The service is friendly and genuinely helpful, although the amount of folks who speak English fluently was not what I was expecting. The rooftop restaurant was perfect for morning breakfast and meetings - a great view of the city climbing up the mountains. As noted by other guests - the hotel is themed with regional artifacts on each floor. The rooms are good sized, furnished sparingly, but have large closet and shelves that accommodated my 10 days worth of clothes! Bed was clean and comfortable. The AC worked well and was reasonably quiet. The bathroom is stocked with above-average amenities and had a great shower with plenty of hot water. My only complaints are that the towels were quite rough and the lighting around the sink was very dark. The hotel is clean, safe and very fairly priced. I have a hard time thinking that there are better places in Medellin unless one spends significantly more money. I know that I will come back to the Diez for my next trip.

The hotel is clean, well designed, each floor has decorative items of different regions of Colombia; but the furniture at the room is a little complicated. Medellin is a city where rains a lot, I would like that the hotel give umbrella services and I miss coffee at the room also.
