“One of the best (and least known about) attractions in Medellin”

I live in the Estadio neighborhood of Medellin and really enjoy my proximity to Cerro Volador. I can walk from my house (near Obilisco) to the top of the hill in less than 30 minutes.`It's really good exercise and when you get to the top, you're rewarded with an incredible view of the entire valley.

Some people say that it's dangerous or seedy but in my half dozen or so times hiking the hill, I've never felt unsafe. There are plenty of people out hiking/jogging and there are also armed security guards with their scary looking, muzzled dogs. At the top of the hill, there is a small police station and several food/drink stands.

This is one of Medellin's biggest secrets and once discovered, I think it will become a very popular weekend destination.

I've been coming to Cerro El Volador for over two years now and still think it is one of the best places to jog around the track, read a book, or just get away from it all. The city has finally invested some money into revamping the area (it was a little run down before) and new landscaping, benches and snack kiosks have been recently installed.

The views here are way better than Cerro Nutibara and it never even gets half as crowded, making it easy to find your own spot and take in 360 degree views of Medellín. Not only are you isolated from the city noise, but the air is definitely fresher up there! Check out the trails going down to Cra 70 or other sides of the city, there are 4-5 access points.
