This was our first trip to Asbury Park and we were pleasantly surprised. The Empress Hotel has a very laid back feel. The front desk staff were nice and efficient. Rooms were clean and neat and we had an oceanfront view. We enjoyed the bar and the outdoor pool. Special recognition to the bartender who was nice enough to offer suggestions on where to go. Overall great first experience in a new beach town.

Room Tip: Our room, on the 3rd floor, was very quiet. Had a great ocean view. If you're interested in good...

Our stays recently at the Empress have all been excellent. I love the staff as well as the location. Rooms are always clean. The club Tabu is fun as well. They also have karaoke nights which are a blast. I highly recommend Empress.

Room Tip: Request ocean front because the view is worth the price of admission.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Empress Hotel! The staff is friendly and fun while being professional. The rooms are cozy and clean, the decor has its roots planted in some "I remember the 70s" fun. And there is a famous club on sight, if you're there for nightly fun too.

I was there with my boyfriend and his 16-year-old daughter for a show at the Stone Pony Summer Stage, which is two block away. And across the street from the hotel is the famous boardwalk and beach, we loved being right there. We spent a lot of time at the beach and boardwalk.

We were overlooking the pool, which is populated by anyone, but often by good looking grown-ups having a grant time. It did look like fun!

If you haven't been to Asbury Park you should go. It has a strong sense of history and is developing rapidly. There are yummy restaurants, shops, and of course, a lovely beach. You will pay $6 for a beach pass; money well spent.

Stay at the Empress if you are a positive person happy and comfy with all, but specifically the GLBT culture. This a great hotel run by neat-o individuals. We saw families with kids and couples alike, all having a super fun weekend in Asbury Park while staying at the Empress.

And it has a fun history. Did I say Judy Garland stayed here?

Room Tip: I don't think there is a gym there, if this matters. If you want to see people swimming, get a r...

We made a quick trip to the beach and decided to stay overnight. Our first stay at the Empress and it really couldn't have been any nicer. We had a double room on the ocean side which was clean and comfy with nice and fresh linens, extra towels and plump pillows. All the staff we met were just lovely and as helpful as could be. We look forward to returning for another visit soon.

Booked last minute on Saturday morning, threw bags in the car, kids in the car seat and off we were to the shore. The location of this property can't be beat, its right across from the board walk, so when traveling with two young children ability to go across the street is just priceless to me.

As its been mentioned before this hotel hosts gay club or at least it popular with gay man and there are a lot of gay people that stay in this hotel. I totally don't care about that part but I am sure that some people do. Perhaps the only uncomfortable moment we had was when my girlfriend took all of out 4 kids to the pool and some guys were (well getting personal with each other) but as soon as she walked in they broke it up and it was fine. If you open minded its really not an issue and our kids really don't question anything as they are well exposed by living in NYC.

My room faced the ocean and we were on 3rd floor, while kids passed out cold from being on the beach all day, the music from the night club was pretty loud even though we closed balcony door. My friends stayed on 4th floor and faced the street, it was still loud but bit better then mine. The rooms are very basic, seemed fairly clean to me.

Hotel served continental breakfast in the morning and they let us do late check out which was nice.

My only issue is the parking lot, it small. My husband and I had an event to attend to and we returned after midnight, lot was full and we ended up parking on the street which was not easy job because of all the clubs in the area.

We stayed at The Empress so we could be with friends who were visiting from out of state and also staying there. The staff was incredibly friendly and everyone we encountered was great. They were accommodating about letting us leave our car in the lot during the day while we walked around even though we had checked out. The location was also excellent, super close (walking distance) to Cookman and all the shops & restaurants, basically on the boardwalk, not far from Convention Hall, and directly across from the beach. That being said, for the price, the room was dated and there was a pinkish make-up stain (lipstick or blush?) on the sheets of one of the beds. We didn't bother to say anything since we did have two beds and we were only staying one night, I'm sure they would have taken care of it if we'd said something. I know our friends had an issue the second night they stayed with the club being super loud after they'd worked all day too. Overall, an okay place to stay for a short time with very nice staff.
