We enjoyed our stay very much. All of the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. It is a family- run business. Ricardo and Aura are the proprietors. Paulina (Ricardo and Aura's daughter-in-law) booked our airline tickets to Providence through the hotel travel agency. We took a couple snorkel trips with Ricardo and Aura's son, Scheidner. Saw lots of pristine coral and many fish, some of which we have never seen other places in the Caribbean. There is a well-stocked grocery store under the hotel. You can also change U.S. dollars to Colombian pesos here. The restaurant serves delicious meals. Try the lobster thermidor! We learned a little more Spanish from our server, Marjory. And we taught her a little more English :) I taught the cook how to make French toast :) Juni got us up and running with a scooter, which we made good use of. Adilia at the front desk always had a big smile. She knows English very well if your Spanish is lacking. She was covering for her sister, Francia, who was on vacation. Thanks for the seahorse ornament, Adilia! The rooms are basic, but clean. There is nice swimming pool. We shall return!

I spent a week at the Pirata Morgan five years ago, and I've been looking forward to returning again ever since. During that visit, I had the opportunity to check out the other hotels, and frankly, they are all just fine, but I'm not very picky. For me, the main advantage is the management and the staff: they did everything right, and I was at ease immediately. The manager seemed to make a special effort to ask what I'd like for dinner, and if there was anything he could help with. I thought it might be interesting to go snorkeling on the other side of the island, so he recruited his son and his motorboat. We spent the whole day up at Basalt Key, Crab Key, McBean Bay and around Archbold's. I remember being nervous about getting to the airport after I checked out and how the staff assured me that Jaime was never late and that even if he was, they could have the airplane wait for me, even if I had to borrow a horse to get there. They even packed a little snack for me.

I'm going back to OPI next week, and I didn't even bother with the other hotels and guest houses. I'm very fond of Old Providence Island, and as far as I'm concerned, the Pirata Morgan is my home in paradise. By the way - if you're planning a diving vacation, you should visit DiveOldProvidence.com - Tad Miller is the best!

Room Tip: If you can get the top floor with a view over the bay, you will be very pleased.

We stayed here for a week in January 2013.
The front desk staff and Doña Aura, the owner, are very friendly and looking after their guests.

Our room was in the main building on the 3rd floor, facing the pool and ocean. The bed is large and comfortable.
As other contributors commented, our AC was noisy as well. What was an annoyance was that the maids after making up the room always turned off the AC AND left open the balcony door, so when we came back in the late afternoon it was quite hot in there.

The breakfast was a la carte, while most of the days we ordered the same (eggs, that usually came with an arepa or a waffle, fruits, and bread). Most of the days we were the first to have breakfast as we headed out for diving, and we felt a bit unwelcome when we entered the restaurant, no smiles, it was rather like we interrupted the morning coffee of the staff.

We only had lunch there on our arrival day, which was quite ok.

Twice we were chilling in a hammock in the afternoon in the garden, and while the waitress was there, there is no active service, we had to go get our beers or soft drinks (if there were any) ourselves.

The hotel is perfectly located right on the beach (rocky), with a nice garden. However, the missing service there and the obviously let down plastic furniture was a total turn off. The chairs and sunbeds were broken, or dirty. The empty bottles of other guests were there still the next day in the morning.
If they would put a bit more effort in the maintenance of the garden it could be a true paradise.

The hotel also offers moto rental, but make sure you don't end up paying more than elsewhere. The other two rentals (gas tank full, good motos) cost 50.000 COP per day, while at the hotel it was offered for 70.000 COP a day, and on top of that despite they had ensured us the tank was full we ended up without gas after only 2km.

In summary, we would probably stay there again as it was for us conveniently located next to Felipe's Diving, but ask for a better deal for the stay.

Room Tip: Main building, 3rd floor.

Hotel pirata morgan is comfortable and clean and was a good base for our 6 night stay in beautiful Providencia. We had a room with a sea view and balcony which was a pleasure to stay in. Giant bed, tv, air con (quiet), fridge (not so quiet but easily unplugged). Having seen a few rooms, they seem to have a range of bed layouts to suit different needs. We took bed and breakfast only, which was a good option since the breakfast is ok, but we found that lunch and dinner was best found elsewhere. There is free wi-fi that worked next to the shop, but not in the room. The local beaches are 5 and 25 minutes walk, both great. The 25min, Southwest bay, has more facilities, including 'el Divino Nino' restaurant on the beach where the plato mixto (seafood platter) is sensational.

Providencia is possibly the most laid back Caribbean island you will ever find and has not been overcome by tourist masses and cultural losses that many places have, including to some extent the sister island of San Andres. If you want to unwind and get as far from the rat-race as possible, you've found your place. Crystal clear waters and reef are great for snorkelling. We got a private boat from Sheiner at Morgan's but you can take a collective boat for lower cost that stops at the normal places around the island (some leave from southwest bay). With such a relatively untouched place, there are old school natural issues to consider. The sun is fierce, there are mosquitos, sand flies (although neither are bad enough to be a show stopper), we both had stomach issues to some degree - which we attributed to the water. If i were to repeat the trip i would be cautious and avoid ice, salad and juice drinks made with water.

To fly to San Andres you need to buy an entry form at the airport before checkin. To get to Providencia there is a catamaran (3-4hrs) or flights in a 20-seat plane (30mins). The flight was great ( and no liquid restrictions). You get a seat allocation, but these are ignored, so if you want a front seat, get on first! The Cat is about half the price, but several people told us it was heavy going with lots of vomiting. Apparently its worse on the way out than going back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper level facing the sea have the best view and most have balconies. Some rooms with a side view of the ocean have hammocks on the balconies. To be sure of getting one of the ocean view rooms there is normally an additional supplement.

Last September me and my wife stayed in El Pirata Morgan for 5 nights. Everything was very good. Although at first we were a little disappointed as the view of the "ocean view" room was not that much, the hotel and the people working there changed our first perception.

We had the breakfast and dinner included, that was supposed to be a buffet dinner. But at there was almost no other people staying in the hotel, the people for the restaurant cooked specially for us what we wanted.

It has a little market right down the stairs where you can get food and drinks at reasonable prices.

And the best part, was that the hotel was located right near a beautiful and isolated beach. We spent there a 2 days with literally no other people on it, so it was peaceful and romantic.
In addition, you have there Felipe Diving shop which is very good is you like scubadiving...
