The rooms and resort are not your typical high end, commercialized all inclusive accommodations, but they provide for a relaxing and more than enjoyable experience with its own unique charm. The rooms facing the ocean come with a million dollar view and even if they could be matched they would be unaffordable to most.
The food is very good. In comparison to resorts in Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, the food here surprisingly out did them all. If I had to offer a criticism it would be that the variety is not as expansive as some of the other resorts. With that said, there was enough selection to choose from for any of the three meals and there was always at least two dishes that were exceptional. Don't forget to try their soups!
For people looking for a beach unfortunately this place does not offer one within the grounds. However, the pier/dock is a good alternative that is great for sunbathing and jumping in the ocean. I myself am accustom to a beach but I appreciated not having to wash off the sand from my body and flip flops. The public beach is about 7 minutes away and is a great option.
Johnny Cay has to be the most pristine and picturesque beach area I have ever been to and deserves a paragraph on its own. I don't think my imagination could create a more idyllic setting. Tours are offered that include a stop on the island but I would recommend hiring a boat taxi to give you the flexibility of spending as much or as little time there as you want - it is also a cheaper alternative.
All in all you get great value for your dollar, the weather is always warm and the people are friendly. A must visit for anyone not entirely focused on a crazy party scene.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- In the midst of an Antillean environment, this resort has an exceptional architecture with circular towers overlooking the sea at ‘Punta Hansa’ – at the northern end of the Island of San Andres – which allow for wonderful panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. These buildings are alongside a long wooden dock that leads to a natural pool in the sea and with an aquatic platform ideal for snorkeling and other water sports. The Decameron Aquarium is located approximately 10 minutes from the airport and is a well sought out location for tourists since the longest and most beautiful beach of the island is located only a few blocks away, surrounded by a boardwalk, parallel to a commercial area with restaurants, discos and the most exclusive bars. You will enjoy an enchanting paradise that can be explored completely on foot and where a cultural mixture of English, Spanish, Pirates and Corsairs can be explored. ... more less
