I really like this hostel, can say it's one of the best I've been in at my trip. Very relaxing, beautiful, clean and the staff are awesome. You got everything you need, and it's located 5 minutes walking from a nice Plaza with big super market. I went there for 2 nights and stayed another one just because it was that nice to be there.

This hostel is meant for hippies and it is full of them. My friends and I prefer to be around normal people. The hostel had good security with large gates. The rooms were clean and well-maintained. The internet did not work well and we had to constantly reconnect. The staff spoke English quite well. They had a bit of an attitude though and were not very respectful. We stayed for one night and then found an apartment to rent. If you're going solo, this is a decent place to stay at. But if you have a couple of people with you, it's much better to rent an apartment near the beach. It's cheaper and a better location.

I had mixed feelings about ''Dreamer Hostel'' in Santa Marta.
It has been voted ''best hostel'' in Colombia for a couple of years running.

I expected big things with a claim like that and was disappointed on first impressions.
The rooms are average size but are very stuffy. My room had 1 window in a 10 bed dorm and was impossible to sleep in the first night (fanned room , no air con).

Second night i stayed in an Air conditioned room , but it didn't work , so i slept in the hammock that night. Don't have expectations and maybe you'll enjoy it more then me. It was a cool place to hangout through the day and the small canteen they serve food at is actually pretty good.

One thing i liked was the staff. Always smiling and happy to help with is great when your travelling.
Overall it was an average hostel with nice staff and very very hot uncomfortable rooms.

Room Tip: Get a room with A/C otherwise you'll be kicking yourself and....book in advance , these guys wer...

I'm by no means an eco-warrior, and would in fact recommend staying at this hostel as it's great fun, good value and clean, but guys, you have got to start leading the way in terms of a more sustainable way of travelling.
It really annoyed me that the only way of drinking water at the hostel is by buying dozens of small plastic bottles (or walking to the supermarket). We calculated that on average the hostel must be getting through 1000+ bottles a week at least, as Santa Marta is one of the few places where you can't drink tap water.

When I was there in Feb, there was no communal filtered water place. I know the hostel earns more money by selling water but you just need to drive from Cartagena to SM and look out the window to see how much of a problem plastic pollution is in Colombia. The guys at reception told me it was a great idea but that they already recycled everything. That's good but recycling doesn't reduce consumption in the first place, and who knows where recycled plastic ends up in Colombia.

As I say I am really not enviro-crazy but these hostels need to be doing far more to helpprotect the beautifulenvironments they help us all to explore. Until this one does, I cannot give it more than 2*...

The dreamer Hostel is very clever made, good kitchen facilities, clean pool and an uneven pooltable. The kitchenstaff is spanishtalking and the food is great. The Barstaff is backpackers and the reception speaks english and spanish (you don´t get a better reception than Diego, Gustavo and Toni)

We stayed for 11 days and did almost not leave the hostel - perfect place to pretend to be on an all includedd vacation for a while.

Just be careful after midnight, to much noice and Eric will come after you

Stayed here to do the popular Minca tour. Awesome hostel and its easy to see why it has won so many awards on hostelworld etc! Service is fantastic, and staff are brillant. Perfect place to simply chill out, with its own restaurant, yummy drinks, fantastic value in Happy Hour, fun activities organised and pool.....there is no need to ever leave! Do not hesitate!

Room Tip: Book a room with air con!
