“Opportunity (to improve) Knocks!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2012

Wake up Chelsea and listen to opportunity knocking! The retro design and decor concept is great and your location is terrfiic - why did you stop trying? A few years ago, this looked like a real gem and now, it needs cleaning, polishing and a new setting! Any failure to thrive will be due only to your own internal service and cleanliness problems. A fresh coat of paint is needed - everywhere. Front desk staff great and valet and bell hops are wonderful also. My friend and I stayed on a Thursday night just before July 4th week and the place was dead. There was no atmosphere, music or bright lighting around anywhere. The beach cabanas were not available but no explanation. During our 24 hours there, there was always a line at the front desk and no other staff around to help guide us through dark halls to find our way around or learn about the property and events. The spa appeared closed - no sign. The 5th floor "social area" was dark, dreary and deserted. The main floor bar and fire pit was a nice set up (except the bar staffer spent more time talking to servers then tending to bar customers). Perhaps she could not see us in the dark? Dinner of clams, spinach salad and burgers at the bar was pretty good. If you don't mind the looooong wait. Need to add some specialty drinks to the slim-pickin's menu too! Put some brighter lights around, add some happy people/staff and fun music! How about a few simple art deco style happy signs directing guests on where to go to find pool, spa, restrooms, etc.? Tell us what is happening with a few easel's around (not just when you are on hold on the phone)! The roof top pool, lounges and cabanas were the best thing about the entire property (except music way way too loud at 10 a.m. and we wish breakfast was served at the pool (or lunch before 11 a.m. made available). Teplitsky's breakfast was great but 2 employees running the busy morning crowd were like deer in the headlights - running scared and overwhelmed. Our request for take out food caused a bit of a side bar and 30 minute wait (not to mention we received egg sandwiches after ordering omelets!). We had higher hopes but will not come back unless we hear there is great, great improvement. For the price, not ocmpetetive with nearby casino/resort properties. We were scoping place out for a girlsaway location but it just didn't feel clean, cheery or safe there - so we will keep looking.

Room Tip: Luxe tower only.

Check in was long-many people in line but we were able to park and go to the beach while we were waiting for the room to be ready.
The room was clean and well stocked but the hallways were dark and drab.
The restaurant was a nice place to sit and have a drink as it was connected to the pool, we had children with us and they enjoyed the lobby level pool-although it needs some work and cleaning.
The wait for the valet to bering around our car around to us was long, but it was during check out time. It ws much quicker earlier or later in the day.
Our valet on the last day was great and loaded up the car with all of the beach gear and kids toys.
Overall it was an average stay-Really late cleaning the room and no ice machine on our floor.

We chose to celebrate my fiance's birthday and could not have had a better time. It really gave of th feeling of being at a resort. The room was very nice, location very good, food excellent and beach service great. Will definately go back. The Rise and Shine package is the way to go.

Stayed at The Chelsea 7/20-7/22, and have a long list of critiques. The price we paid (over $600 for 2 nights) would not be outrageous for true 4 star property (as The Chelsea claims to be). We stayed in the Luxe on the 7th floor.

When we arrived we used the Valet and went to check in. At which point we were told a $125 hold would be put on our credit card for incidentals, which we gladly agreed to. We also notified them we would be partially paying with a gift card we recieved. They assured us that "of course, that would be no problem" and that we could deal with that upon check out. When we recieved the bill the morning of checkout, there was more than the hold, and in fact we had been charged for the first night in advance, which then had to be credited back to us. Also, the gift card we had recieved had not been activated property, but luckily I brought the reciept, which the front desk had to take to the manager, and waste another 15 minutes of my time after waiting on the checkout line. Sorry for the rant, now back to the review of the property.

We took the elevator up to the 7th floor (room 706) and as the elevator door opened, it looked very retro. Although I guess back in those days people routinely ran into and kicked all the doors as evidenced by the scuffs all over everything. We entered our room and it was more of the same, worn out doors, hair on the vanity and the white desk chair by the TV broken. We overlooked the pool and outdoor club, which seemed nice at first, and we got ready to go out for a while. When we returned around 2am, we realized that the room was less than sound proof, and the music downstairs was cranking loud. Luckily we were exausted and went to bed to the sounds of base.

The next morning we woke up to go explore the fitness club and spa. The Chelsea website claims the fitness center is "comfortably furnished", I disagree. Instead you arrive in a room with a 1 universal machine (that was partially out of order). Some free weights (up to 50 pounds) and a few cardio machines that are low end and frankly looked like they had not been cleaned since installed. It appears they are all leased machines which begs the question of why the facility didnt invest in higher quality for this supposed 4 star property.

On to the hot tubs. As we walked in we were pleasantly suprised by the ambiance. However, it didnt take long to realize that the entire room lacked proper venitlation, and although the hot tubs were clean, the amount of chemicals used made it impossible to breathe. We the opted to go outside, and spent way too long wrestling with the door to the outdoor pool as the button to exit barely worked.

We got some snacks (food was good), and drinks, which were fine, except that despite the appearances of a full bar, the soda gun was broken and the bartender had to take half made drinks inside to the main bar to finish them before returning.

Checkout (as descibed above) turned into a chore, waiting on a long line to then have to deal with various payment changes. In addition the valet that we paid for was only good until 12 noon, rather than being based on a 24 hour schedule, so it cost us an extra $15 bucks to leave the car for 2 more hours while we went to get brunch. We left our bags with the bellman, only to return and wait for 20 minutes until he came back and explained he couldnt find the bags and "could I have a description of them" (even though he put the numbered tags on them and they were apparently in a secure room down a long hallway that was "new"). We explained that the most promenant one was "bright yellow duffle" and 10 minutes later he finally figured it out.

We were finally on our way out of town. Unfortunately very disappointed. I appreciate nice hotels, and even more, quality customer service, this experience just didn't deliver either. The reason for the terrible (1 star) vs. Poor (2 stars), is based on the hotel's claim of being a 4 star property, and as such we expected 4 star service.

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at The Chelsea after finding a great deal on LivingSocial. The hotel staff was excellent; everyone was very friendly and they treated us as though we were the hotel's only guests. One staff member even took the time to explain the ins and outs of the room and services/nightlife the hotel offered. The hotel's hallways were a little outdated, but the rooms themselves were up to date. The beds were comfortable and we had a great view of the ocean. It is also close to Girasole - a nice Italian restaurant, and a short cab ride away from the casinos. We will definitely stay there again!

We were going for a weekend gateway only to find out that we drove all the way there and the hotel closed due to some power outage. While we understand they can't control an "ACT OF GOD" as the very rude customer representative put. it was the way they handled the situation that was very upsetting. We did not received any phone calls or notification of the situation and they were not willing to do anything to compensate driving all the way there with no place to stay. They did not make any arrangements for their guests with other hotels in the AC area for the inconvenience and all they had to say was that they were sorry. After reading all of the other bad reviews we were glad we didn't stay there after all. If you book with this hotel be careful as you may find it close when you arrive there... don't take the chance

I went to check out this hotel last week. I stayed in the Luxe Tower, which was nothing special.
The room, (which was supposed to be an upgrade), was a simple standard room with a nice
white bedspread.

I was only there overnight, so I decided to make use of my time, and have a look at everything the hotel offered.

It has a nice location on the beach, and a good set up for chairs and umbrellas. That was probably the best part of my stay.

In the evening, I went to the Steakhouse on premise. I was told by the front desk that it was the rave of AC, and voted one of the top three steakhouses in town.

When I got to the restaurant, I asked the waiter what he recommended to really get the best
of what they offered.

My meal came. There were two small portions on my plate: one was steak, and the other was fish.
Both were so-so. I was surprised, and disappointed.

But not as surprised as when I got the bill and saw that that meal was $70.00!

That was outrageous to me.
Even if the meal had been extraordinary, I think $70.00 might have even felt a bit steep...

Having visited AC many times and having had some incredible meals there, I can say this restaurant doesn't even come close to the standards necessary to charge those prices.

I would say overall, my experience of the hotel was disappointing.
