Went to atlantic city last weekend and it was not bad, just a little crowded. It was a beautiful wknd so we expected this. We had lunch at land shark right across from margaritaville. The boardwalk itself looked clean, nice view of the sand and beach. We did not walk the whole thing as it was very sunny outside but from what we experienced it was great. Lots of shops, views of all the hotels and many spots to eat (pizza, hot wings, ice cream etc)

I grew up in NJ. I remember (way, way back) when the men had their cigars and sportcoats on Saturday evenings, and the women dressed in their finest with fur stoles. It was sad to see AC go downhill in my teens, but I have fond memories of Steel Pier as a child, and my daughter still rode the Wild Mouse about 13 years ago, and screeched as I once did.

The AC boardwalk is a mixed bag. On one hand, it's got loud music, flashy hotels and casinos, nice restaurants and a huge Monopoly board right along it. On the other hand, there also lots of cheap little keychain stores and $5 palm readers in the areas where the casinos are not. It's kind of sad. The casinos were supposed to transform the city, instead, they only transformed the areas where they are. The amusement park (Steel Pier) is tiny and nothing compared to parks South of it. No kid over 10 would be interested. The shopping mall (near Ceasar's) is half closed and really depressing. When i was there, the fountain show was closed to "technical difficulties". And with the Revel, Showboat, and Trump Plaza closing next month, I imagine things could get worse. Atlantic City needs to do something about this. They need to clean up the boardwalk and put in things other than casinos and restaurants.
