“Great Location, with a couple of Negatives”
Reviewed 2 April 2008

Just completed our second stay at Bally's and have decided that it's one of the best places for our needs and budget, but travelers who haven't been to A/C shoud be aware of the negatives.

First, the positives: It is right at the center of the Boardwalk; has indoor access to Ceasar's, Wild Wild West and Claridge; a fine selection of slots; the largest smoking area in A/C and adequate restaurant choices.

Our room "Tower" room (4539) and was well-appointed with two pillow-top beds, fridge and spacious bath with tub and shower. This particular room also had a nice view at night...not the ocean (t's just dark at night anyway), but the lights over A/C. The Tower is well-located for us...near the lobby and easy access to the casino floor.

The pool and spa area are still the same...very nice with whirlpools and lounging areas overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, but weak on the dressing/locker room end.

Now on to the negatives: Restaurant choices are somewhat limited right now at Bally's. The cafe is closed for renovations and there is construction on the sixth (dining) floor.
The only 24-hour choice is Pickles Deli located at the Boardwalk entrance on the casino floor. If you are a Harrah's diamond member, the Diamond Lounge on the sixth floor is very nice though hours are limited.

The biggest negative: Harrah's should take a more pro-active stance on keeping derelicts out of the casino. I was bothered several times by dazed bums late at night while playing slots near the Boardwalk entrance at Bally's. I've never felt physically threatened (they each seemed far too stoned to out-run me), but it is uncomfortable to be approached by people asking for cigarettes and money while you're just trying to play your slot game in peace. I ended up leaving that area and going farther into the casino to avoid them.

This was a very nice hotel-casino ,
Our room had a huge flat-screen tv,1 double bed,3 huge windows w/large windowsills , and granite counter tops in the bathrooms, and a fridge. My Grandparent got a free room for one night.Since it was only one night, we did not have too much time to do everything but, it was a wonderful stay.I have gone to Bally`s Atlantic city many times so,here is what I recommend : take high floors,(they have been renovated, the bottom floors haven't),9th floor Dannis tower is the best, all Dannis tower is pretty good,Bally's tower is nice (take top floors!),DO NOT TAKE CLARIDGE TOWER! It is horrible, and those are the tips I give you.Very satisfied with room.

Whole thing was a little confusing from the start. Booked a room at Bally's then ended up in the Claridge or Claridge tower as it's not called which is now apparently part of the Bally's property.
All employee's we came in contact with were friendly and helpful. The room itself was very dark and a little dingy. The bedroom and bathroom could definitely have been cleaner but there were no glaring problems that would make me complain or change rooms. My overall impression is that the particular part of the hotel we stayed in was old and needed some heavy duty remodeling.

I stayed at Bally's Atlantic City on a Saturday night in March 2008. Before moving on with the hotel review, I would just like to say that I don't think I would ever spend a weekend in Atlantic City again. The crowds were horrendous and made it almost impossible to enjoy oneself. The pools were over crowded, the casinos were overcrowded and difficult to walk through (let alone find a table or machine to play), and the hotel hallways were loud and unkempt all day and all night. If you are hoping for a relaxing weekend trip or something similar, then do not come to Atlantic City on a weekend.

On with the review...

I booked a Bally's Tower Premium room, but upon check in was given a room in the Claridge Tower. This is the second time in two trips that I have been given a room of a lesser quality level than what I originally booked. I asked about getting the room I booked and was told that guests who book through Hot Deals or Comped rooms are not guaranteed the room they book. Harrah's properties do not "block rooms."

The Claridge Tower is below average. The room looks nice enough - the beds have nice linens and the carpet and furniture are all in good shape. The beds, however, are terribly old box spring mattresses that desperately need replaced. I'm just guessing, but I'd imagine that the mattresses are at least 15 years old. The bathrooms are also in need of renovations. I would say that the bathrooms were remodeled at the same time they put in new mattresses. There was a hairdryer in my bathroom that looks as if it has been there for 30 years. The floor tile was uneven and cracking and the vanity and sink were well below average. Add all that to the paper thin walls and you might have a very difficult night ahead of you.

The Bally's Casino is relatively large, especially when you factor in the adjacent Claridge Casino and the Wild Wild West Casino. There are a ton of slot machines and there are a fair amount of table games to play. You might have difficulty on a weekend of finding a particular big name slot machine, though. The Wheel of Fortune and Deal or No Deal machines were almost always occupied. The table games all seemed to have limits of $25 and above on the Saturday I was there. That didn't stop people from filling them quickly, though.

The Sidewalk Buffet was the only restaurant I took in at Bally's. It was below average. The food was only lukewarm and most of it was cooked improperly. The menu is pretty expansive, though. Crab legs, prime rib, turkey, shrimp, as well as Asian and Italian food are all present. I don't plan on eating there again.

There are other dining options such as Johnny Rockets, a steak house, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, another buffet, and a number of small fast food type places.

Bally's has a few shopping stores, but the real shopping areas are next door at Caesar's Pier or just down the street at the nearby outlets. The close proximity of those two attractions make Bally's location in the middle boardwalk quite good. Close by are Caesar's, as I said, as well as the Trump Plaza. The Sands used to be right next door, too, but that has been reduced to a pile of dust. The Tropicana and Taj Mahal are probably equidistant away in opposite directions. Neither are that close of a walk, but both are indeed walkable.

Overall, my experience at Bally's was just ok. The hotel and casino simply aren't that nice, even by Atlantic City standards.

We stayed at Bally's in February of 2008. The first room we were given smelled of vomit. It was so disgusting we couldn't stay there. So we asked the front desk for a new room, which they did quickly provide. Then our new room wasn't much better, just lacking the vomit smell.

The room has no comforter--- just bed sheets. The drapes had food on them. The floors appeared to never be vacumed and there were stains on both the floors and the walls.

The bath tub looked like it had never once been cleaned and the bathroom floor was dirty.

Splurge and go to the Borgota-- because this hotel is disgusting.

This past weekend we stayed at Bally's and it was our first stay in Atlantic City. We reserved the premium tower but was worried by other travelers' comments that they would put us in another tower. Surprisingly, we got exactly what we asked for. No problems checking in - very quick and the staff was very friendly. Everyone was very friendly and helpful since the layout of the hotel is kind of confusing and a couple of times we had to ask where things were. The room in Bally's premium tower was very clean and spacious. The only problem with the room was that we wished we had a better view. Our view was the tops of nearby buildings. We could not find the ocean! Check out was just as quick and friendly. Our stay at Bally's was great.

This was our first stay at Bally's. We usually stay at the Showboat, which is also owned by Harrah's. Our stay at Bally's was just as great. No problem checking in. All employees were courteous and friendly. Room in Bally's premium tower was fantastic. They didn't try to put us in the Claridge as suggested by other travelers and we went on a holiday week-
end. We got exactly what we reserved. The room was beautiful and very clean. Check out was a breeze and no hidden charges. We will definitely keep going to Harrah's hotels.
