Look it's not too shabby. If your expecting proper 4 star quality etc then first of all you shouldn't be in dili anyway.

The hotel itself is nice, I didn't hang around for dinner (went to Diza) but breakfast was alright.

The staff were ok, lack english but that's understandable. I didn't get picked up by their hotel service after a night out, nor sure if he understood what I wanted or forgot.

Aside from that, I would stay again.

Everything else:

1. The staff are incompetent and lack basic hospitality capacity
2. Menu is terrible
3. Chef messed up every breakfast order
4. No variety in menu
5. Lack of availability of hotel taxis and car service
6. No one sole decent English
7. Made us pay entire bill upfront
8. Made us pay daily rate for Internet that barely works.
9. Shower was dysfunctional and not consistently warm/hot

We are a bunch of Australian Government personnel working over here until the end of June and we have been in the Ramelau for a couple of weeks now. The staff are very friendly and the accommodation is comfortable. The restaurant however is disgusting, the cook is only a short order specialist and we have meals included in our deal. On one occasion there was a lamb curry on the buffet menu and we could not find any meat in the dish let alone vegetables. We have mentioned this to the manager who just did not seem to care about what his guests at all. Last night we had lamb chops with peas and corn in the one dish. It is a pity that the restaurant is so disgusting, otherwise the hotel is not too bad. I certainly would not recommend the place though as the restaurant has put me off.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

I have stayed here 3/4 times now and it's a great hotel in a developing country. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating, and the food is decent and very cheap! Only down side on my last stay was that the room was quite smelly from the drains but you get that from time to time in some country's.

i only stay for 3 days here at november 2013.

pros:
- new
- spacy room

cons:
- breakfast not good, less options.
- bit hard to get a cab, although they offer to drop you anywhere in town for 5 bucks.
- no safety deposit box (only at their office and you have to ask the hotel owner to store it).

so, if i was offered to stay in the ramelau again.. i rather not.

I've stayed at the hotel twice for business. And I'll return a 3rd time in late August, again for business.
It is clean, convenient to business appointments, yet isolated from the beach front bars, restaurants and other hotels that offer a differing choice (and are generally cheaper) -- it all depends on what you're looking for.
The hotel offers a large restaurant with a decent breakfast buffet - including in the room rate. I have not eaten at the hotel for any other meals, so I can't comment. The hotel has a small coffee bar, juice bar and pastry shop adjacent to the front desk -- just enough to satisfy cravings, but ask about the hours--they are limited.
The hotel has one of the nicest hotel pools in Dili, I'm told. I've seen families use it daily.
The first time I stayed here, Internet access in my room was spotty--it is much better in the lobby and common areas as other reviewers have commented on. The 2nd trip, I found coverage in my room on the 2nd floor to be much better. The only issue to expect: the wireless link will drop about once an hour and you'll need to sign back on with your UN and PW, but otherwise, I found it acceptable for email and Internet tasks.
The rooms are large (see pics), but I had to laugh the first time I walked into the room and noticed that the desk and furniture is the exact same from IKEA that I bought my college-aged son for his apartment, his freshman year in the US, years ago. Again, it depends on your expectations--it is all very functional and looks decent. This is a 2.5 star hotel in the US or Europe or other parts of the world, but given the local, it's probably a 3.5 to 4.0 when compared with the market choices of Dili. But it is also more expensive than many of the beach front hotels, by as much as 2x per night.
One quirk to know about: the tea/coffee pot sitting on the desktop is not plugged in. And its cord will not reach the electrical outlet below the desk. You will need move it to the spare electrical outlets near the in-room refrig.
Internet access is extra: $10/day. And they will charge a 5% surcharge if you use a credit card, so paying cash is better. Same thing for paying for your room, a 5% surcharge is added if you use a CC to pay.
For staying 4 consecutive nights on my 2nd trip, I received a 10% discount off my daily room rate.
Ratings below are based on expectations for this part of the world.

Room Tip: Internet access now seems to be good on the 2nd floor.

Filming trip to East Timor. Now I know that there is a very small hotel industry in East Timor, but given that the ramelau is being run by South Koreans, who should know a bit about running hotels, the service at this hotel is pretty poor.

Reception staff did not know what rooms of theirs were the largest rooms or suites, till the cleaning maids showed them. Restaurant staff not really interested. Not sure that they have that much competition, so can imagine they feel that they don't need to make an effort.q
