“Ok beach for an hour”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

Good sand, some sea lions, but not much swimming and relaxation doe to rocks and waves. You can go to the light house and see some boobies and iguanas.

“Quite nice for wildlife watching”
Reviewed 21 December 2013

We visited Punta Carola in the evening when the sun was going down and found the beach quite deserted of people.

Walked to the top of the light house for a view over this nice, enclosed beach. There were many marine iguanas on the rocks, some boobies and fregate birds on the shore, even white egret sitting on a boulder.
On the main beach we ran into several baby sealions and their mothers and watched them playing.

“An interesting spot”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

Unlike some of the other beaches on San Cristobal, I found Punta Carola to be rather quiet. It's a decent walk from town, but there were quite a few sea lions. I enjoyed taking photos from the top of the lighthouse, as it gave me some nice perspective that I didn't have in other spots.

I found the walk from town fairly easy, but it was about 15 minutes. You can take a taxi from town, but I saw very few, so you probably won't get one coming back.

“few people, lots of cool wildlife”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

This beach was a bit off the beaten path and can have a strong current at high tide, but at low tide? Amazing. We snorkeled with more sea turtles here than anywhere else, and they were all in water less than 5 feet deep. The sea lion bulls can be territorial about where you enter the water, but the friendly ones will come out and play with you or guard your belongings while you swim. Really fantastic spot we returned to again and again!

“Sea lions colony”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

15 minutes from town, Punta Carola, beach has an area of 300 meters and a light house. Between vegetation and rocks are present marine iguanas and on the beach a large colony of sea lions...and the smell with it...
Behind there is a variety of rare plants, like the lava cactus, the manzanillo...etc There is also the milky mangrove.
If you want you can snorkel with the sea lions here also, but it is a good exercise trying to get into the water between the rocks.
We chose to walk the path a little further east. There is a nice little Bay with ramp access where the water is more calm. We had great time swiming with the baby lions and watch a variety of large birds flying around.
Pack a day trip lunch, bring your snorkel, a wet suit or wear a Tshirt, the water can be cold...and just enjoy it!
