“a great location but not so great hotel”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

This hotel is very conveniently located just across the dock. If you are arriving by water taxi it is very convenient. Aside from that the location is great because you have ocean views and you are right next to the malecon (walkway next to the ocean).
I received a quick response from the owner when I contacted them online and based on the reviews we booked 3 nights. Unfortunately the owner seems to be gone a lot and the daughter (s) are the ones running the place. The service in general was not very good. The beds were the most uncomfortable beds we had on our 13 day trip in Galapagos (we did land based-no cruise). The maid would not even refill the toilet paper even though it was clear we were out of toilet paper. Electricity failed a couple of times (perhaps not the owners fault). However, the last day we did not have water and when we asked the daughter she said she would check something and then we had water shortly after that. Breakfast is not that great and you have to wait until 8 am which for us was just too late since in order to avoid the hottest part of the day during our hikes we usually left by 7 am.
The hotel is in a bit of a noisy location especially on weekends and I had to use ear plugs most of the nights we were there.
In general this is a place where you don't really feel you are in a hotel, you never see anyone incharge as the reception is one floor above many of the rooms and you have to always ring a bell for them to appear.
In general I would not recommend this place, I may have to pay a bit more, but get better service somewhere else. There are other hotels nearby and for a longer stay it may be worthwhile to pay a bit more but get better beds and service. I would not return to this hotel.

I'm sure our experience isn't the norm. Unfortunately Jackie the owner wasn't around and the place was being run by her daughters, who basically use the place as a doss house. Ignorant, unhelpful, uninterested and with absolutely no sense of customer care whatsoever.
We arrived early from our tour Boat (about 8am) and went upstairs to let them know, the reply was the room won't be ready till 12. That's fine it says check in is 12. I was a bit unwell and was looking forward to showering and changing, but didn't mind waiting. It was well past 12 probably nearer half past when the room was finally ready, even though they knew we were waiting (they cleaned a different room first!).
After I tried to check in and it was such a hassle for the girl behind the reception, having to open a book and pass me a pen!
The room had a view of the Harbour and was clean and fresh, but the bed was not so comfortable (2 singles wedged together), with ill fitting bedding. The shower was just hot enough (can't changed the tempearature) but the strength of the flow wasn't so good. The worst part of our room was the toilet/bathroom situation, there was no door and only 3/4 high wall, and it was right at the end of the bed! No privacy at all,
We were leaving the next day so it didn't matter but when we got up to have breakfast, eventually (we'd been sat for 10 minutes) we were informed breakfast was in the restaurant down stairs at 8am not 7.30 as the sign behind reception said.
It wasn't a pleasant way to end what had been an amazing experience in Galapagos and we both feel that the $70 room fee was way over the odds for what you get especially in the service department.
Sorry Jackie but don't leave your daughters in charge!

Room Tip: Personally I wouldn't stay there.

Overlooking the wharf, right in the midst of the action. Not that there is much in this quiet seaside haven. We arrived early, no problem gaining access to room. The struggle to the 3rd floor was well worth it. Our own 'Cupola' on the roof, air conditioning not needed as breeze wafted through our louvres. This room is very spacious, clean & we had our own sitting area on the roof top. Excellent, friendly staff provide breakfast, snacks & beer. We were offered fried eggs for a change on our 3rd morning. Tour arranged with local guide, informative & well priced.

Room Tip: Go for the Cupola!

The manager and owner, Jackie, is an artist, and this hotel is one of her canvases. Each room we saw was very different and each was interesting in its own way. Try to get a room looking out on the bay. Our room was clean and the water pressure was good enough to take a shower but not to wash your hair. The hotel is at the nexus of the town, where the passenger pier and the malecon (water front street) and the main street meet, but this is a little city and the traffic is light. The sea lions made more noise than the cars. We slept well. The malecon is well designed and well maintained. There are some very good restaurants within a few blocks. The town is a safe place. You can walk around day and night. At one end of the malecon you can watch marine iguanas and at the other end, sea lions. One of the good things about the people here is that they like sea lions. In the evenings, after dinner, many local people go for a walk on the malecon, which is well lighted, and watch the sea lion females nurse their pups.

Room Tip: get a bay front room

Very centrally positioned, a short walk from the wharf (if you are arriving by boat) and a short walk from restaurants and tour operators.
Jackie, the owner, was very nice and helpful and recommended a very good taxi driver to take us on a tour of the highlands.
We got a 2nd floor corner room which was relatively cheap, but if we had of known better we would have got the top floor 'cupola' style accomodation which looked quite interesting and was only slightly more expensive.
The rooms are very eccentrically decorated in kind of a new-age/Spanish mission fusion style (if that makes sense)
We were happy to get air-conditioning, but less happy with the street noise, lack of view, and slightly poorly maintained room (toilet needed fixing and room was slightly dirty).
The other reviews mention the relatively small open-plan rooms, electric shower heads and so on.
It is fine for a night or two, but again we would go the top floor cupola or choose another hotel if we were going to stay longer.

The location and external appearance are both great. However, we did not have any water at all for three of the seven nights we stayed here. Even allowing for the poor water supply on San Cristobal, this is unacceptable. Electric shower heaters are very dangerous (neighbouring hotels do not use these). Owner Jackie is very sweet and pleasant but seems unable to deal with complaints. Rooms attractively decorated, but dust everywhere.
