“Tranquil and amazing service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

My journey to the Galapagos was very challenging, but as soon as I checked into the camp, the journey was all worth it.

- the staff was very friendly and accommodating. My dates changed multiple times due to bad airline service and the camp was willing to work with me to rearrange my stay and tours.
- the facilities was immaculate. It was set up in a beautiful setting. I loved my tent.
- food was amazing. Every meal was prepared with care and creativity. In addition, they prepared the most amazing picnic for me to take to the beach.

I'd totally come back to this place again and will recommend to all my friends.

This hotel/camp is beautiful. The common areas are incredible - very peaceful. The food is excellent and they are able to accommodate for kids as well. We went after a cruise so the activities were redundant at the hotel. I would just confirm what you will be doing on the cruise to make sure you have enough to do at the camp. The pool was small but beautiful. My only suggestion would be to have towels and maybe some beverages at the pool so you don't have to walk back and forth. We had two side by side tents. I would not recommend though having your kids by themselves in a separate tent. We each went with one of of our kids and it was perfect Katherine the manager is very kind. Glad we went! Highly recommend.

The location and service at this property is ideal. It is within hiking distance of the Giant Tortoise reserve and has an amazing sunset deck. The meals are awesome and it is hard to believe your luxurious bathroom and bedroom is in a tent. I only wish I could have stayed more than two nights. It is very close to the pristine beaches of Santa Cruz.

A fantastic safari camp on Santa Cruz in the Galapagos. The location is perfect away from the main town of Puerto Ayora - an oasis of calm. It is set in the beautiful and lush Highlands. Stunning views to the west overlooking Daphne minor and major islands as well as Santiago and on a good day Isabela. It is on the dry rain shadow side of the highlands so is drier than other highland resorts such as the rather wet Royal Palm.
There are 9 beautiful tented rooms modelled on a Botswana camp. All with beautiful furniture very comfortable bed and ensuites with an excellent shower with plenty of hot water. A deck on which to relax in your hammock, enjoy the view or indulge in some yoga poses. The tents are designed so that you are at tree canopy height which means the bird watching is great. Finches and warblers abound. Our tent number 2 even had its own giant tortoise that visited at 9.30 each morning.
You enter the camp through the central lodge - a beautifully decorated enormous sitting and dining area. There is a cooling floor water feature as you enter with huge glass doors to capture the impact of the view across the different vegetation zones to the sea. The furniture is balinese hard wood with a comfortable lodge feel and an enormous open fire - which is a boon on the occasional wet day.
There is a large balcony open air dining area where we ate breakfast, supper and lunch each day.
The food was out of this world - organic and locally sourced as much as possible, beautiful homemade breads, juices and biscuits. They have an excellent, new young chef from Quito called Juan Carlos who came to chat with us briefly each evening. He has a French influenced training which produced beautiful rouxs and sauces. Delicious combinations of flavours and perfectly cooked meat and fish - the puddings were fabulous - passion fruit mousse being my favourite. His twist on traditional fare was particularly delicious, heightening the flavours of simple potato dishes perfectly.
The staff are wonderful - thoughtful, calm and polite with a perfect balance of interaction and leaving you to relax. As Catherine greets you at the door with fresh juice and towels you've relaxed to a new level before you reach the balcony. She is a fount of local knowledge and very quickly gets the measure of what sort of time you want while you're with them. She is the perfect hostess. Angela is attentive and efficient with a lovely gentle manner - in fact all the staff have a calmness nothing is too much bother - the atmosphere that has been created by the husband and wife team Michael and Steph rubs off on staff and guests alike.

Daily interactions with Catherine, the manager, made this a special place. She took time for every guest including personally driving a sick child into the village to see a doctor. The tents have hardwood flows and full bathrooms and are serviced three times a day. The pool is lovely and sell cared for. Catherine arranged for us to have a bottle of wine on the lookout and watch the sunset, very romantic and very appreciated. Dinners on the patio, given a couple of choices in advance, were a delight as well. The service was superb. If I could offer them a couple of suggestions it would be to buy a treadmill or two for guests who like to exercise as the 2.2 kilometer road down to the pavement is a killer. A second suggestion would be not to restrict the choices for a lunch they provided at a local restaurant, and include a coke. Finally this was a great place for us as we don't like to spend a lot of time on cruise ships but if you want to see more than just sea lions, blue-footed boobies, tortoises, and frigate birds you need to combine this with a few days on a cruise to the southern islands. That would make the perfect visit to Galapagos.

The good news is that this is a great place to stay. The bad news is we only stayed one night, and wish it would have been much longer.

Other reviews have documented what a wonderfully unique place this is, and we totally agree. You have the treatment and services of a luxury hotel, with the personalized attention of a bed & breakfast.

Katrien, the manager, is an amazing person who truly cares about meeting the needs of each individual guest. We experienced some confusion with a taxi pickup that we had arranged through another party, and Katrien was immediately on the phone to straighten things out. She even arranged a back up in case our cab didn't arrive. This was not her problem and we had already checked out, but she worked things out for us.

Such service and dedication are so rare in today's world. Safari Camp is just the sort of place that you hate to leave.

Room Tip: We stayed in Tent #9 and would again. While all tents are private, #9 seemed to be the most isolate...

You can tell by the five-star rating that I loved it, but I want this review to be practical, so you know exactly what you are getting. First, the location. You are up high, and and least when we were there usually among clouds. That means it can be very damp, so forget about drying your clothes outside at the end of the day. One the one clear night we had, however, the sunset was fabulous, and the stars were beyond belief. It is remote, however, and at least a 45 minute ride to get to the boat for your day-trips. There is nowhere to walk, and I imagine it is quite a long car ride to downtown. There is also not much to do at the camp, so bring plenty to read or other things to keep you occupied at the end of the day. The tents are awesome, but they are tents, so don't expect complete luxury. The bathrooms are great, and you can put toilet paper in the toilet (not a given in Ecuador). The dinners were perfect, and about as good as you can expect in these conditions. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and just about the best I have ever seen. Overall, highly, highly, recommended.
