We were staying in this gem of a place for nine days. The setting is beautiful and tranquil. The resident dogs are lovely and come on walks through the grounds with you.The room was number 1 which is top floor spacious wih view to die for.Spotless room powerful shower clean towels daily if required.Breakfast great choice lovely fresh juices esp blackberry our favourite.Staff great new manager Mary Lou very helpful and knowledgeable.Gladys and Maria took care of rooms meals and also our washing.Robert had arranged all our tours and also pickup from airport and emailed a full list of procedure once on Galapados.Went like clockwork, trip of lifetime enhanced by brilliant people.Ask as many questions as you like and you will always get prompt reply.Well done to whole team x

How I would describe Semilla Verde in 10 words: Peaceful and in harmony with nature where you can unplug.

At Semilla Verde Lodge it is easy to lose track of your days and nights. The property is surrounded by LUSH vegetation, including cultivated coffee trees and you'll feel as if you've been transported to a SIMPLER, GENTLER place that someone pressed "PAUSE" on and left on "slow mo" setting.

What I loved about Semilla Verde:
-Walking paths in lush vegetation
-Yoga Room (best experienced in the moonlight)
-Day tours - Robert helped set these up prior to my arrival.
-Friendly and efficient staff - Marie Lou was very sweet, helpful and organized! I enjoyed speaking with her about life on the Galapagos
-Honor bar - wine, beer, sodas, snacks
-BREAKFAST (AWESOME!)
- Family and group friendly and gives a family feel to those traveling SOLO
-The TORTOISES wandering around on property
-The property pets (2 dogs & a cat)...
-The peace & quiet

Some notes:
If you are looking to be in a touristy area, this is a little off the beaten tourist route (which is just fine, if you are there to enjoy the natural side of Santa Cruz)

If you want to go to restaurant or buy groceries, it is a short cab ride away (less than $10)

Room Tip: Room 1 is supposed to be the best per review from others.

- Our room:
We stayed in Room 1 for 8 nights. It had the greatest view and more privacy. We left our big windows open at almost all time including night. Waking up with the sound of birds chirping was like waking up in a fairy land every morning. We loved watching flocks of birds flying over the verdant forest. There were lots of monarch butterflies and cute little birds, such as yellow warblers, hanging out in trees in front of the room. The scent of trees and the ocean cleansed my lungs. These amazing sensory experiences were already enough to fulfill what we expected for our stay in Galapagos Islands. Watching the sunset over the forest, drinking the organic Semilla Verde coffee, was a great way to complete our day.

My husband enjoyed taking a nap in a hammock in the balcony. There is a double size bed in addition to the queen size bed. So a couple with a child can also stay in this room.

- Staffs:
Marie Lou, a new manager of Semilla Verde, was very kind and addressed our needs quickly. Other staffs (too bad I did not get their names) who were in charge of cooking and cleaning were also very nice. We enjoyed omelets every morning and the arranged meals at Semilla Verde. Our room always stayed clean and had enough number of towels everyday. The laundry service was very convenient. They charged about $12 for 3 Lbs of laundry. We also fell in love with the resident pets - Rusty, Luna, and Nega. They are very friendly and will greet you every time when you come back to Semilla Verde from your day tour. Oh we miss them already.

-Other facilities:
The yoga room was spacious and clean. There are Manduka Lite mats and other yoga gears like blocks and straps. So you don't have to bring your own gears all the way to Galapagos. I once brought a mat over to the balcony in the second floor of the main guest house and did a 30 minute version of Ashtanga, looking at and breathing the forest and the ocean. It was truly therapeutic. Do not forget to take a walk on the beautiful trail. We encountered a giant tortoise during our walk. I didn't have a chance to use the small swimming pool (just didn't have time for it), but it seemed to be useful for a family who was traveling with a 2 year old baby.

-Day excursions:
We asked Robert to arrange our daily excursions to nearby islands for us since we did not have any knowledge about the island tours. I loved all the island tours he arranged for us. The boat company people were very nice, well-organized, and there were always someone who speaks English (we cannot speak Spanish, shamefully). The highland tour guide was very kind as well. Marie Lou always doubled-checked our itinerary and reminded us of our scheduled activities in advance. She also arranged early-morning taxi pickups for us.

Overall, I strongly recommend Semilla Verde to everyone. I don’t know when I will be able to go back to Galapagos, but we will stay at Semilla Verde again.

Tips:
- You can find many restaurants on Charles Darwin Avenue and open-at-night food vendors in Kiosk street, if you are interested in experiencing diverse flavors of local foods. They are usually very tasty.
- At Semilla Verde you can purchase some granola bars, soda, beer, and wine. If you want to eat/drink something other than these items in your room, make sure to buy it when you are in town. You can store your stuff in the fridge in the kitchen. There also is a microwave oven for heating up foods.
- Get the chairs out in the balcony and look at the stars at night. As you know, most of us live in places where we cannot see that many stars, including the Milky Way, with the naked eyes. Don't miss the stars (Southern Cross) that are only see-able from southern hemisphere.

Room Tip: Room 1 has the best view and more privacy. It is worth the money.

Semilla Verde is located on a lush coffee plantation on one of the older islands in the Galapagos Islands. It offers comfortable lodging, outstanding food and outstanding service in a richly diverse setting. And, it is 10 degrees cooler than at sea level which for me was a real plus, particularly in the evening when sleep is sought. Every room has air conditioning, by the way, but I don't, personally, like air conditioning.
The drive into town takes about 15 minutes and, so, is no big deal. The drive to where you pick up boats which take you to other islands is more like 30 to 40 minutes each way and is, kinda, a big deal. This is my only reservation about staying at this jewel of a lodge.

Room Tip: Room # One (1) is the best room although all the rooms are good. Room 1 has the best views of the o...

A wonderfully designed property that took full advantage of an amazing, lush backdrop of the highlands leading all the way to ocean in eyeshot. Robert, whom is the owner of the guest house is a marksman when it comes to running/managing the property and making sure guests are satisfied - very hands on, and available, one of the reasons staying in this intimate boutique location was great.

A very open design property that leveraged the wonderful breezes at roughly 1000 ft with sliding doors throughout the living area, that included our own private balcony view from Room 2. Although we were only joined by one other couple during our stay, you will truly receive 1-to-1 service. Amazing breakfasts, and per request, lunch and dinner to enjoy while you gaze out into the vast coffee plantation and accompanying trees, birds, crickets. Tranquility is the perfect descriptive word, perhaps meditative too.

My wife and I are somewhat outdoor people which the grounds really catered to with vast trails throughout the land where you encounter the majestic giant tortoises! A key reason that helped make this stay awesome...

The port town is maybe a 15 minute drive by cab, but a peaceful and scenic drive - there are some excursions in the immediate area, but any ocean based outing's, shopping et al will be down the road in the port town

All in all, you'll find this property to provide a great highland outing, attention to detail and of course complete with wildlife in your backyard!

After months of crashing in hostels we decided we needed some peace and quiet and chose Semilla Verde based on the great reviews. We were not disappointed and I was impressed with Robert's attention to detail. A bit of a perfectionist myself, I appreciate when someone's looked into every detail of their operation.
Although it's a cab ride into town, it's worth it when you wake up in the morning only to hear birds chirping rather than people and cars/trucks. Catching a taxi into/out was never an issue. The food that we had for Breakfast/Lunch was amazing and I even emailed Robert asking for one of the recipes.
Overall, if you're a couple or a family, even solo traveler looking to relax, I'd highly recommend staying at Semilla Verde.

Room Tip: Room #1 if it's available. Best view on the property.

Semilla Verde comprises two hotel builidings some 100ft apart - the Semilla Verde Lodge (Rooms 1-6) and the Finch Wing (Rooms 7-9). They can work in unison or as separate entities for separate parties. betwen the two there is a fully equipped yoga studio where you can enjoy individual or group practice.
