“Felt Like Movie Stars”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

We bought the 7-night adventure package with Red Mangrove Lodge. Everything we read about how fantastic was all true. We spent the extra $$$ and got the Suite Mayor, which made it a trip of a lifetime. Suite Mayor had the most awesome view of the bay!
The food was great, and the staff had an amazing knowledge of Galapagos. The excursions ran perfectly smooth. It was fun meeting people from all over the world, too. But one hardly had to leave the complex to see what we came to Galapagos to see: the wildlife. Yes, so many of the animals just hang out at the Lodge - they obviously have great taste, too.
Do yourself a favor and ONLY book this place. You will not regret it.
One tiny bit of advice: if you get at all seasick, take the small plane (not included in adventure package) between the two lodges instead of the boat/taxi service (which is included). The lodge can help you book the flights for the best travel times around the excursions.

Room Tip: The Suite Mayor is soooo worth it, even for the $200 per night charge.

We just returned from a "bucket-list" trip to the Galapagos and, thanks to the Red Mangrove staff it completely lived up to our expectations. The accommodations were fantastic, especially the Suites Mayor and Menor at Aventura lodge. The staff was excellent, and everything was handled on time and with our needs in mind. We visited the islands with our kids, (15 and 11). We were in the minority having kids there but there was not a moment that they weren't considered and accommodated. The food options gave them plenty of choices and the snorkeling, hiking and educational nature tours kept all of us happy and busy. We found there to be a perfect balance of activity and down time as well. All that said, if you are not up for an adventure and you are not willing to be flexible, this is not the trip for you. This is nature. It does what it wants. Boat rides can be rough when the seas deem it so, and you may go looking for sharks or sea turtles and not find them. It's not a zoo. We primarily had Manny and Manuel as our certified naturalist guides. They did a great job and kept it upbeat and informative as well as flexing when something didn't work as planned -- giving us options. Keeping an open mind and enjoying where you are and all that the staff and the nature guides have to offer will make your trip great. All of us, all ages, left our Darwin's Triangle tour happy and satisfied.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for ocean view. It is worth every penny. They Suite Mayor is beautiful and fe...

We stayed here 4 days (2 nights on Santa Cruz island and 2 on Isabella). The islands are one of the most unique and breathtaking places in the world!
Hotels were great on both islands, very clean, with friendly and caring staff. We loved those lazy sea lions and sea iguanas on the hotel's terrace.
Special thanks to our guide, David, who travelled with us all the time helping with transfers, tickets and he made us smile all the time, sharing his positiveness and proudness to be part of the Galapagos!
Now we have a dream to come back to the Galapagos some day, and Red Mangrove will be our choice.

Room Tip: Ask for those two rooms above the reception ;)

We stayed at the Red Mangrove Adventura Lodge on Santa Cruz for our first and last nights on our six-day trip to the Galapagos. What fun it was to have wildlife watching right on the deck--nursing sea lions, marine iguanas, sally lightfoot crabs, pelicans. So unique! We came to see wildlife and got it up close and personal. Loved waking up to the honking grunts of sea lions every morning.

We also had an outstanding naturalist guide for our six days. Erick Ortiz was incredible—so full of information and able to answer our questions. His knowledge, ability to share the natural history of the Galapagos, and professionalism elevated our trip to far beyond what we expected. The Galapagos Islands are such a special place, and because of Erick, we left with a deep appreciation of just how special they are.

Our rooms were quiet, airy, roomy, clean, and visited by a cute pair of geckos. Fun to walk right out the room door to be surrounded by thick mangroves. Buffet meals provided choices, including plenty of fresh fruit and fresh-squeezed juices.

The six-day Darwin's Footprint trip gave us an excellent overview of two of the islands with lots of snorkeling in different locations, hiking, and wildlife watching. Highlights included swimming with penguins and marine iguanas. The middle days were spent at Red Mangrove's lodge on Isabella Island, an intimate lodge on a sandy beach with plenty of bird watching.

Room Tip: While oceanfront rooms are available, we found ourselves doing so much exploration that we spent ver...

We booked this hotel as part of a 6-day Red Mangrove land-based tour. The hotel was better than I expected for the Galapagos Islands. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. The main deck of the hotel sits right on the water, and there were seals and iguanas hanging out with us on the deck. The buffet meals were very good with always a varied selection of appetizers, salads, and main dishes. And the desserts were awesome! The staff was exceptional and catered to the guests in a very professional manner. We also stayed at the Red Mangrove hotel on Isabella which was almost as nice. One really nice thing about both hotels was the filtered water that they provided in the main area and in your room. They also prepare all the foods with this water, so you can eat all the salad and raw veggies that you want!! We really loved that aspect of the Red Mangrove experience, since I had been using a Steripen the weeks prior in Peru.

Great service, nice room, beautiful view, what more could I ask for. They also seamlessly handled all of our activities in a very professional manner. The naturalist guide Jhovaer that was provided was excellent. All transportation provided was on time. I could not have found a better place to stay on Puerto Ayora.

Room Tip: I would steer clear of the rooms by the sea lion resting area because of the smell.

This is a fantastic lodge, with beautiful rooms. Lots of wildlife right outside your room, sea lions, iguanas, pelicans, sally lightfoot crabs, lots of different kinds of birds, totally amazing. Our rooms were on the ocean front and absolutely amazing. They were very clean, big, comfortable, and a lot better than we ever expected. The staff were all very helpful with any of our needs. The food is all buffet style and very good. We enjoyed all our meals outside on the patio with the wildlife. The guides and all the excursions were great. We had a great time here and would love to visit again.

Room Tip: If you can get a room on the ocean side, it is well worth the extra cost.
