This hotel was clean and simple. It is on the water, but no beach. It is right in the center of town, perfect to walk to all the shops and restaurants. The hotel staff remembers your name and room number which is good because they can keep the key at the front desk in case you don't want to carry it around. Breakfast was a wonderful display and they switch up the main every day.

The best service! Good restaurant, we guess the best at the island. We stayed for 6 nights, and recommend it! Very helpful staff.

We actually stayed at the brand new hotel built by SolyMar directly across the road from the current hotel and it was amazing. We got an incredible price for the hotel and they were able to customize an itinerary for us an accomodate all requests.

The view from both hotels is amazing although the original location has all Oceanview rooms we still had a view of Santa Cruz and the ocean from our room.

Along with great service and an incredible staff they also have amazing food that we were only too happy and excited to devour daily. We were also able to use both facilites openly and never felt as if we were less important guests even if we werent staying in the original location.

This is a great hotel (either location) and I would reccoment that anyone looking for a place to stay on Santa Cruz give them a call!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel if you are not staying at the Oceanside location.

We stayed at the isla sol hotel which newly opened across the street from solymar. The staff were all incredible and so helpful. They also were all fluent in English. The rooms are beautiful and modern though they need some more soundproofing. The meals at solymar restaurant were delicious. Fresh local food and some north American favorites. Location is within 5-10 minutes of everything. Sealions and birds hangout by the pool. Our tours and transfers were very well organized with good guides.

Dear CDNbackpaker,

Thank you for taking the time to review our newest edition, Isla Sol by Hotel Solymar. We are very excited that you enjoyed your stay!

Our staff prides themselves in attending to our guests needs and they will be so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the note about sound proofing, we'll be taking care of that issue. The menu was designed with our guests in mind, Fresh Seafood with a sprinkling of International favorites that cater to any guests' personal tastes.

Sincerely,

Allison de Perez

When you're in the Galapagos, you definitely won't want to spend too much time in your hotel. This hotel was a clean, comfortable spot to return to after a day of exploring! There are nearly always sea lions lounging by the bar or resting on lounge chairs, which in my opinion is the only reason you need to choose this hotel :)

I was traveling by myself, so it was lovely to have the benefit of sitting on my deck looking over the water in the evenings instead of feeling caged in.

The room was lovely and clean. My most expensive stay in south America by far but I guess being an exclusive island they can demand it.

I only ate breakfast at the hotel as there are alot of highly reveiewed places within walking distance.

I wouldn't of swam in the pool as the seals used it regularly, however I would of been keen to use the spa if they had it covered during the day - that's my only recommendation, please cover the spa pool.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and most spoke great English. Wonderful location too, right in the heart of it but no sleep disturbance.

Thanks Solymar for a great Galapagos experience :-)

P.s. Make sure you take a walk to turtle bay, the staff will give you directions, stunning!

Nice boutique hotel: small, quaint, nicely designed -modern, very tropical. Rooms were adequate, not large or luxurious, but clean - high ceilings make room appear larger - good feature. Nice little balcony. Beautiful setting on the bay. Second story rooms have excellent views. Very pleasant, accommodating staff. Great sleeping atmosphere - open the patio doors and let the sea breeze in - Rooms are in need of ceiing fan for circulation!. Watch out for slippery tile - looks nice, but poor choice of surface on tile flooring. Nice covered patio. The pool serves more as a wildlife refuge than for human use - nice facility, but seals & birds love to use it, with the obviously side effects.
