“A Tropical Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2007

My husband and I stayed for five wonderful nights at Alandaluz while we were on our honeymoon and I would HIGHLY recommend it for those looking for a peaceful, beautiful spot to relax. The cabins are amazing--all built out of bamboo, and ours was up rather high--I felt as though we were living in the Swiss Family Robinson movie!

We spent our days exploring the beach and local towns. If you go, do not miss the chance to visit Cantalapiedra (the ecological preserve that is run by the owners). We spent one day out there and learned so much about local flora and fauna and had the chance to go ziplining over the cloud forest. That was definitely a highlight for us.

The food at Alandaluz was excellent. Each night we had so much fun picking out what to try. Lots of the food was served in unique ways (in hollowed out bamboo or cooked within a pumpkin, for example). The bar also had great (and cheap) mojitos and pina coladas, as well as the typical ecuadorian beer. Another highlight was our trip (arranged by the lodge) to go hiking on La Isla de la Plata and the whale watching. We saw perhaps a dozen humpback whales all around our boat. The entire trip was breathtaking and a once in a lifetime experience. One note--if you want to sunbathe and swim, I would not advise going in July/August. The weather is very overcast and cooler at that time. We didn't mind though...we found lots of other ways to keep ourselves entertained.

  • Liked — the beatiful scenery and accomodations

We stayed at this hosteria for two nights in May of 2007 and had a wonderful experience. We were in an individual brightly colored hut. The grounds are lovely, the pool sparkling, the beach clean, the restaurant food delicious and the price was definitely right. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I would highly recommend Hosteria Alandaluz and would love to return for a longer stay.

We arrived in Alandaluz with a the --- in a group of 10 people. Otto y Byron Delgado were extremelly helpful in making our trip extremelly pleasant and the connection with Isla de la Plata.

I trully appreciate the time Byron Delgado dedicated to show me the permacultural practices that Alandaluz keeps in place and confirm that this is not only a green-tourism destination but also a learning space.

I am looking forward to learn more about the sustainability model they have and the impact their activities are creating at the regional level.

Keep on with the great work!

  • Tips/Secrets — it is important to stick to the permacultural principles and educate people about their importance. We need to rethink the concept of holidays in a way that also nurture the planet.
