Room wasn't ready when it was supposed to be. Room wasn't tidy looking. Got switched to another, but it had a broken phone jack, so wouldn't be able to make any calls. Got switched to a third room. What a hassle. Had to keep moving our stuff.
Rooms are rather bare -- not many places to put your belongings.
Rooms could be much cleaner and more comfortable. Have the rooms ready for check-in when you say you are going to. Replace the bright white ceiling-mounted CFL bulb in the rooms with something more soothing. Add a lamp to the night table so that guests have a dimmer option that can be turned off without leaving the bed. Add a chair to each room. Clean the floors in the common areas and stairwells thoroughly each day. Ensure that all rooms have working TVs/remote controls and phones. Replace the worn furniture in the lobby. Give more attention to keeping the pool area clean/free of litter. Don't leave cleaning supplies sitting in the common areas for hours on end. These are a few of the things this hotel could do to improve the experience for guests. For $70+ per night per room (double bed), the staff should have higher standards and be more concerned with providing a pleasant experience. This is not a hostal for $20 per night.
Only positives - location right on the Malecon (main drag) across from the beach, so it's conveniently located to restaurants, etc. And there is a pool on the ground floor, which also includes showers so you can clean off sand after going to the beach.
