3am start with a long 4hr coach trip from Aswan, which was the only way to get there when we visited. You will see little but desert and rocky outcrops for 3 hours, stretching out to the horizon in any direction.
Temples are amazing and location stunning, when it was originally down in the Nile valley/gorge it must have been a breath-taking site.

It's a 3 1/2 hour bus journey across the Sahara but well worth it. The temples are amazing and even more so to know they have been moved to their new resting place to avoid the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

The statues themselves are impressive but no chance to explore further - 5 minute stop when in a group

Nothing prepares you for the sight of these temples - even made the 4 hr each way coach trip worth it. The views of the Sahara on the way back amazing too.
