I have traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and experienced my fair share of questionable lodging, however Yasmina Hotel was certainly one of the worst. The staff was deceptively helpful and honest until you realize that they are overcharging you for almost everything. We paid 50 E.L for a 10 minute car ride to a beach and 10 E.L. for scuba gear that was dirty and dysfunctional. After the first day we decided to look elsewhere for transportation/scuba equipment and found a hotel that charged 30 E.L for a 25 minute ride to the Blue Hole, where they fitted you for gear and provided a guide free of charge. Needless to say, we were very frustrated. When we asked the staff about the ambiguous charges, they were rude and condescending, and one staff member even rolled his eyes at us! The most frustrating was that we had a few miscommunications with the hotel staff, but instead of trying to work them out one staff member in particular was very confrontational and rude. Also, our toilet did not flush after the first day and we were forced to plan our trips to the bathroom to when we would not be in the hotel and the plumbing consisted of salt water. This may pertain to all of Dahab, but I am not sure. The faucet on the sink was one wrong movement away from falling completely off. The pool was nice and very clean, but quite uncomfortable. There were some women in bikinis laying out, however we were very uncomfortable doing so because we caught young boys that were playing in the pool (presumably children of the staff) taking pictures of us. The housekeeping staff did a very good job every day and we were regularly provided with fresh towels. In all, Dahab is a beautiful place and the people certainly live up to their reputation of hospitality, however Yasmina was an exception and our stay there was certainly not a pleasant one.
