“They know they can better”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2010

We are returning to this amazing hotel now the third time. Its still as cosy and relaxing and uncomplicated as three years before - but you dont get the feeling the go for the extra mile. There were more power and spirit in the last two years. They do all the tourism and hotel standards good - they do their homeworks. But the devil is in the details. No renewings, not one table standing different than last year, nothing new. Business as usual. Dont get me wrong - Everything is still beautiful. But we didnt feel any energy for innovation, for curiosity, for getting better, for trying out something new. We know they can better - but they need to do it!

All the staff is very helpful, friendly and uncomplicated - especially those at the restaurant, the cleaning boys, Sake and Chriss at the Dive Center and the wonderful nightshift-Receptionist who even tried to speak german with us. Unless two people: the very unfriendly and not assisting dayshift-receptionist (what i thought thats the job of a receptionist to be friendly and assisting) and the grumpy long-haired blond lady in the diving center (who should be helpful and caring too - what she does but only with the utmost reluctance. And you do not want to bother such people often).

Hi Daisy_joey,
Many thanks for taking the time to write your review and also for continuing to return to us each year. I feel very appreciative that you feel as you do of Coral Coast and that although you still love the place, you have noticed a different / change in energy or maybe attitude. It is not anyone who would notice this and I thank you for bringing it to our attention, as this is something that we could never see to enbale us to fix it. This has to come from our guests, someone like yourselves who have stayed with us a few times and seen the progress we have made over the last 5 years.
I could list many reasons for a difference in our Hotel over the the last year, economic reccession, dropped exchange rates ... to name just a couple....but the end result is that we are very happy to say that things are looking much better for everyone.... we can now return our energies to developing the finer details and looking to see what our guests have to say.
Thank you again and please feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions, as without guests like you, we will never keep succeding.

This is our second visit and will be back next year. The rooms are basic but the location makes up for it. All the staff are really friendly and we love the 3 resident dogs, Woody,
Banana and Tiger. This is not Sharm, if you don't like a bit of rubbish and a few goats, cats and dogs running around you might not like it in Dahab, but you would be missing out as Dahab has a charm all of its own. We even love the camels!!!!

Clran but very simple rooms. Nice sea view from top floor rooms. 5 min walk from the main town but good because it is quiet. Next to the eel garden dive site. Good pool and very accomodating staff.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2010

We went to this hotel in April 2010 for a ten day diving holiday with some friends who had stayed here to dive in 2007.

For those who know the Red Sea resorts, I would describe this as a really good version of a dive hotel - which is good enough to be suitable for a non-diving holiday as well. It is geared for those who value simplicity: the rooms are fairly basic but clean and air-conditioned, with balconies and plenty of space. The location of the hotel is excellent - on the coast, just off the centre of Dahab, within easy walking distance of the main bustle but protected from noise. The views from the rooms and their balconies are magnificent, overlooking one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world across the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia. The dive centre is located in the hotel, so one can literally roll out of bed into breakfast in the dive centre restaurant.

The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly - it's a small personal hotel, and as other reviewers have noted, they really do bend over backwards to help. We had a particularly vivid experience of this as we were unable to get home due to the volcano disruption. Not only did the hotel accommodate us for another eight days (at the same competitive rates they had offered for the first ten days) but the hotel's owner, Chris, got involved to make sure we had a contingency option, including finding us a potential apartment to rent. The dive centre were incredibly good about letting us use their computer and internet connection, and though we were no doubt a nuisance to them they were unfailingly helpful and accommodating.

Dive-wise this is a professional set up, with well-qualified and experienced instructors. The friends we went with had learned to dive here in 2007 and thought it was a really good choice. It also has plenty to offer more experienced divers, with adventure to be had at canyon and blue hole dive sites. The diving can be supplemented with the odd boat dive, although the format for the shore dives is so convenient we stayed with shore diving. (This is saying something - I'm usually a diehard boat diver.) There is no wreck-diving unless you are prepared to go to Sharm, but the coral is in really good condition, and even more so if you take a safari by jeep or camel to one of the farther sites. The dive centre in the hotel is affiliated with a technical dive centre down the road which can offer deeper dives and different gases as well as courses, so there is provision for literally all types of diver. (One of our fellow guests, an ex-Navy diver, did a 80m trimix dive at the blue hole which he said was excellent.)

Dahab itself is a fantastic place. It has a heavy bias toward watersports and health (yoga and massage are available in most of the hotels, including Coral Coast). Unlike Sharm and Hurghada, it has retained a villagey feel, and it is still managed largely by the local Bedouin population, meaning that the provision for tourists is reasonably authentic. Sinai ways can take some getting used to - be prepared for domesticated animals roaming free and a fairly flexible attitude to rubbish disposal - but if you like the Red Sea, you'll love Dahab.

Although hopefully future guests won't have our experience of being delayed from going home by over a week, the highest praise I can give the Coral Coast is that we were all very relieved to be at this particular place . It is such a relaxed and easy place to be that the extra week was actually enjoyable despite the stress of not knowing when we would get home. I cannot think of anything which the hotel could have done more - and if there was, we would only have had to ask them. We met some great people there, both the instructors and our fellow guests, and having stayed in all of the Red Sea resorts in Egypt, this is the place and the hotel I will definitely be going back to.

The rooms are very basic but very clean and comfortable enough. The bathroom was a bit smelly due to the inadequate sewage system in Dahab but very clean. The rooms are cleaned daily. The rooms are quite noisy too so if you want to sleep in i'd suggest ear plugs. I personally never travel without them.
I was on a diving holiday and the location was great!! The teachers at the dive centre are so lovely and very friendly.
It's near enough to the busier part of town (bars, restaurants, shops etc) but also far enough away to be more chilled out and quiet.
Breakfast at the hotel was very good. All the typical things you'd find at a breakfast buffet plus someone making pancakes and omelettes.
Also the hotel restaurant was very good. The food was delicious and the portions large and the staff are very friendly as well as helpful.

I enjoyed my stay at Coral Coast very much. It has a nice location away from the busy centre, it is right on the beach with snorkeling, it has a nice pool, a choice of 2 restaurants (with same menu and kitchen) and nice service. Right next door is Dahab's best pizza place (Eldorado), and at the hotel premises you have yoga and massage as well as scuba diving centre.

I have really enjoyed my stay at Coral Reef hotel and the classes I took at the attached diving center, save for a few minor quibbles.

The hotel is definitely not for the luxury-seeker, as they rooms are basic, though clean, and the street noise from the back doesn't allow anybody but the most sound sleepers to nap past 9 am. Also, during the time of our stay a cat living on premises seemed to be in heat, resulting in loud showdowns in the middle of the night between several neighborhood tomcats vying for her attention. Please, for the love of nature, spay this otherwise very friendly and pretty cat! You'll be doing her and your guests a big favor.

On the upside, the instructors at the dive center were absolutely amazing (I had Michelle and Doug): patient and knowledgeable. Also, all the rental diving gear was in top shape (I really appreciated a thick wet-suit that fit me perfectly well).

The hotel grounds are well-kept and spacious: there was plenty of room to hang out with a book and nap in the afternoon (they have hammocks on the beach too); the restaurant served excellent and varied delicious breakfasts, as well as very reasonably-priced lunches and dinners.
