The Bedouin Moon Hotel
Ranked #10 of 53 Hotels in Dahab
Reviewed 21 March 2014

Bedouin Moon is in a good quiet location on the edge of Dahab - away from the busier centre of town where most of the hotels are located. Also an easy walk into the town centre. Despite the FCO warnings, felt extremely safe (including walking into the town centre and back at night) and there was not even a hint of trouble. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and offered excellent service. Good breakfasts too. The rooms are 'rustic' - a bit rough round the edges but also have a certain charm (bear in mind this is a 2 star hotel, so don't expect flawless rooms). The pool is set in a beautiful peaceful spot in the garden with views of the mountains and sea - although the water is very chilly at this time of year (March)!

We dived with the centre attached to the hotel, Reef 2000. The Reef 2000 staff were excellent and tailored the dives to exactly what we wanted, offering considerable flexibility. They provided a very high level of thorough instruction and dive guidance and we felt in safe and competent hands. I would strongly recommend them for any dive trips or courses.

Room Tip: Whilst the 'sea view' rooms are more expensive, you also have a road view and as such they a...

Just back from two AMAZING weeks at the Bedouin Moon hotel - we really did not want to leave, the sunshine, the friendly staff, the relaxing pool, just heaven! We were slightly trepidatious to travel to Dahab at the moment but cannot stress enough how safe we felt the whole time we were there. Walking around at night and getting taxis into town we were greeted with waves and smiles from the local kids and Bedouin. Ok, there are some check-points on the road from Sharm but these were not intimidating and actually made us feel even more safe. Dahab is quiet at the moment sadly, which means everyone is so pleased to see you and go out of their way to make you feel incredibly welcome.
In terms of the hotel - My boyfriend booked this trip for us as a Christmas present and although I was looking forward to it, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a two/three star hotel. However both of us were bowled over by how great it was. The staff at both the hotel and the dive club go out of their way to make you feel welcome and part of the Bedouin Moon 'family'. When we asked for a room upgrade halfway through our stay (we fancied a change of scene and the bathrooms in the sea view rooms are quite small) we were given the best room in the place at no extra charge! Room 29, it's lovely). The food is delicious at the hotel (I can vouch for the chicken tagine, like many on here. My boyfriend says he had the best steak he's ever had at the Bedouin Moon. We also LOVED the Thai place in town - and they have the most pristine toilets you've ever seen!).
The pool area at the hotel is gorgeous and peaceful, which is ideal if you're a non-diver. Lunch and snacks can be brought to you pool-side straight from the kitchen, which means you really can be super-lazy, if you wish! (Thank you Lucy for traipsing up-and-down to cater to our every whim!).
My boyfriend particularly liked the taxis into town where you hop into the back of a pick-up, open-air and with all the sights and smells to enjoy on the short trip (you have been warned! Good fun but not if you're used to be chauffeured with air-con etc!).
We are already planning our next trip!! Hopefully see you soon Gilly and the crew!

Room Tip: Superior Rooms have much bigger bathrooms than standard rooms. Room 29 (superior) has its own large...

Love coming here....a real escape from the world, relaxing in bedouin surroundings. Staff are always on hand to help, the diving centre next door is handy if you fancy heading under the waves for a day and there are yoga and chi gong sessions during the week in a beautiful studio set into the mountains.

As beautiful as last time.
We were in Bedouin Moon in October last year and came back for another holiday now.
Nice staff, great food, clean rooms. Everything was perfect.
They even made lunch packages for everyone on the last day, because we had to go to the airport at 6am.
Seaside rooms are awesome, you stand up in the morning with a rising sun over saudi arabia.

To all tourists who are scared because of warnings from the foreign office, I had a very safe feeling in Dahab and did not care about a warning. You just feel how happy the locals are for every tourist coming. And everybody assured safety. The english and german staff who live in this town with her wifes and little children, won´t stay there if its not "safe" anymore.
You cannot guarantee 100% safety, but where you can that ?

We will come back, if they warn us or not !

Room Tip: Seaside Rooms with view to saudi

What an amazing, special place, a real gem, a place as a solo traveller I would go back there again & again. It is magical especially when lit up at night, the Bedouin fire pit was the place where all the chilled out guests met every night. All the staff always genuinely put the guests first, nothing was too much trouble. Special thanks to assistant manager Gillian who went more than the extra mile to make everything were special for me as a single traveller. The food was extremely good ,well priced ,good sized portions loved the Chicken Tagine .I am not a diver but found loads in the area to do.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are worth the extra and quiet, unless of course you don't like the sound of the wa...

My husband took some persuading to visit Egypt last October - but we had such a great holiday in Dahab that we are about to book again for this October and bring some friends with us. It was the lure of the Blue Hole that finally got him to say yes and the snorkelling around the Blue Hole was indeed wonderful. However it was the friendliness of the staff at the Bedouin Moon that really made the holiday for us. Gilly, Karim, Lucy and the rest of the team couldn't have done more to make our stay a successful one. We didn't want an impersonal international hotel and the Bedouin Moon was the perfect choice for us - our sea view room was big enough and was spotlessly clean and the mosquito nets did their job. Perfect location on the edge of the town means it was really peaceful sitting on the balcony watching the light change on the sea yet a short (and amazingly good value) taxi ride into the busy town centre for the bars and restaurants. We enjoyed walking to the Lighthouse area in town for our morning mango juice before the first snorkell of the day rather than doing taxi both ways. One beautifully calm morning we snorkelled the house reef a few metres from the hotel - it was untouched and truly beautiful and we were the only ones there. There are loads of restaurants to choose from in town but we enjoyed our meals at the Bedouin Moon so much that we ate there more often than we'd expexted to - after we'd enjoyed a drink from the bar sitting by the pool. Dont forget to take you hairdryer with you and do take some good insect repellent and you should have a great stay too. I had better make that booking now before you beat me to it...

Room Tip: Worth the extra for a full sea view

We are a couple who went to the Bedouin Moon to do some diving next door at the Reef 2000 dive centre (see separate review). We prefer independent "quirky" hotels as opposed to large hotel chains and we couldn't be described (usually) as all-night party animals.

In our opinion the hotel is best described as full of character, if a little sand-blasted around the edges. This is not a 5-star hotel, so don't expect the sort of standards or facilities associated with such places.

We what we found was:
(i) a chilled out hotel where guests could relax and just "go with the flow" - we found the stresses and strains of every day life just drained away when we walked through the door;
(ii) the staff could not do enough for the guests - every member of staff put the needs and comfort of the guests first - and we felt this was really genuine - no forced smiles here!
(iii) the food was excellent and reasonably priced - the best meal I had all week (including several trips into Dahab) was the Chicken and Apricot Tagine at the hotel - the food here is really good!
(iv) the rooms were clean and comfortable - when we arrived we were met with a twin room - although we had asked for a double. Now this mistake was the fault of the travel agency and NOT the hotels. However, the hotel quickly resolved the problem with no fuss at all. Yes, the paint was peeling on the patio, and the room decor was a little tired......but it was clean and very comfortable.

Special mention to Gillian, the matriarch of the hotel, for whom nothing was too much trouble
- she organised a wonderful day in the desert for us and helped to make our birthdays very special.

We are already planning our return trip for June 2014 - this is a haven of tranquility and relaxation and is, in our opinion, rather special.

Room Tip: Room 8 faces out onto the front of the hotel - lovely views of the see - but can be windy.
